TerraLux Minimag replacement Luxeon bulb

what do you think about it when its compared to the other bulb replacement for 2AA m mag?

Great review, I have just received a new miniStar2 this week,I had talked to Dan from Tactical Warehouse, about not being able to finding any reviews on this bulb. I for one am very impressed with this upgrade.I do not have a lot of Led lights but this one is among the brightest I now have.It compares with my SL 4aa led, the only thing I noticed is a slight greenish look when compared to my other led's,none of which are luxeon's.When you get a chance get a MaxStar2 for review,I would like to know how it checks out.By the way I must say that Dan at Tactical Warehouse was great doing business with, I am glad he is a CPF supporter.

Wonderful! Is it possible for us to see the runtime graph which TerraLux provided to you? I,(and I'm sure other CPF members) am just dying to see it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif The anticipation is killing me!!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif Hail Roy! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif You are great!! Thank you.

Should this translate into a similarly shaped graph for mA drawn vs time?

Don't get me to lieing! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've never tried to measure current draw of an led. My older plots were in mA, but that was mA generated by a photo-cell being exposed to the light.

eeb......no problem! I just inserted a graemlin in my posting that should have been there!

I read the review. Sounds like a great review of a great product. Noticed however that the pictures on TerraLUX's web site shows a HD or LD and not a SE Luxeon. Do they have several versions? The beam shot certainly shows a relatively diffused spot. Is that due the the SE or to focusing problems? The new custom reflector may solve this problem. If the spot goes wider only after the lamp came on, then I suspect it may focus narrower if the reflector is cut away a little more. It is strange than both TerraLUX and EverLED use the SE Luxeon and not the HD. They should at least use both and leave the choice to the customers.
My 2 cents worth. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

If I remember correctly, the SE was designed to work with reflectors and not optics.

I too would be interested in a comparison. They all seem to be about the same $$$, so who has the best construction, fit, and ease of installation? I really like the idea of the 1W Luxeon Star. Have more than a few Mini Mags, but only want (afford) to convert 1. The one that rides with my Leatherman supertool. Everybody claims theirs is the best, but who REALLY has the most bang for the buck? A simple swap-out is a must for me as I am a total klutz. Thanks.

Rob

The MiniStar2 is pretty much a drop-in affair. The only other article you'll have to swap out is the reflector, but that's an easy and tool-free process too.

From my website, here are the complete installation instructions:

To change the bulb in the Mini Mag with the MiniStar2, unscrew and remove the head, remove the old bulb, and insert the MiniStar2. If it doesn't light up, remove it, give it half a turn, and reinsert it.
Unscrew and remove the retaining ring on the head, and remove the reflector. Replace it with the one provided with your MiniStar2, and screw the retaining ring back on. Now, screw the head back onto the flashlight body. The MiniStar2 should go out when the head is screwed all the way on, just like the original bulb did.

See? Easy, isn't it?
