Hi Everyone,

After lurking for a while, I just wanted to take a quick minute to thank everyone for helping me begin what seems to be a terrible habit!

I just ordered my first "real/serious/too expensive" flashlight -- a Dereelight CL1H v4 from FlashCrazy.

Thanks for all of the advice and guidance.

One more question -- what does the emitter technology upgrade cycle tend to look like? Should I expect the "next big thing" every 3 months, 6 months, yearly??

Regards,

:welcome:

I hope you like the CL1H!

As for LED improvements, the last great breakthrough was with the Cree XR-Es back in late 2006. Before then there were the Luxeons and Nichias. I'd say every couple of years there should be a break through. Right now the LEDs are slowly improving, the current gen LEDs now have more bins and more options, but no big breakthrough for sale yet. The start of warm white LEDs(they call it neutral white but I like to call them warm white) might be considered a breakthrough in use.
