I seriously doubt you'd ever sell it.... But give me a quick PM if you ever do. :)

Looks Great!

"The Blue Flame" is a very fitting name.

LOL....funny video. I haven't heard that song in a long time...and man did that burn fast! Sweet looking package.

So now you belong to the Blue Flame Club....there are several variations on that Club theme!

That is a really beautiful light. Top quality components and workmanship all the way - it must be about the best 623 there is - congratulations!

Thanks for the kind words guys :)

I wanted something different and the CPF guys came though big time :twothumbs

to anyone, does the 623 maglite get hot in your hand over time?

That is an excellent question, and one that is not often asked. Most of these 100W bulbs that we are using in the higher power hotwires are bulbs found in overhead and other types of projectors. Those projectors have cooling fans and/or heatsink devices to reduce heat that our flashlights do not have.

It is true that much of the heat is reflected out the front, however a percentage of the heat is transferred to the surrounding parts that are not necessarily designed to withstand it. My destructive testing included putting a Fluke temp probe a few mm away from bottom of glass envelope with bulb open to the air, and the 64623 measured almost 200° F. You have to consider that the temp will get much hotter inside the enclosed head chamber.

The run time on these Torch type setups is less than 8-10 minutes (at full output), so it makes little sense to use a light with this magnitude of heat output for long periods. I believe a person should use "hot to the touch" as a sensible guage of runtime duration. If it is getting uncomfortably hot, especially the head portion, you should stop using and let cool down.

I see no point in pushing the duration to the point where some have peeled reflector coatings. You can also damage the switch plastic components, glass lens, wire insulation, batteries, & rubber O-rings. I have had no problem using these lights in 15-30 sec blasts, using good old common sense, and unless I would be wearing gloves for winter cold, I would recommend using it without gloves so you keep track of the heat.

Great question, I actually asked Lux if removing the o-rings was a good idea. :)

AW's driver (at 30%) allows you to use it for general purposes much longer. I also noticed ambient temperature plays an important role in cooling. I ran it for 5 minutes continuous outside last night and could still touch the head. Just a few minutes in the house and you can't choke up past the switch housing.

WOW COOL HEAD!!! :twothumbs

Yeah as for 623 just use common sense. Use the head as temp indicator.

You suck for selling this light

…Just kidding. It looks great! Was the silver machined area clear coated or raw aluminum?

The only thing I'm kicking myself over is not bringing it down to the lake with us that weekend so you could see it first hand. :ohgeez:
