Re: The HDS / Ra Junkie Thread.

I just had to add my thoughts on this - that is an absolutely gorgeous photo! Do you mind me asking what you shoot (photos) with? I'm a bit of a photography enthusiast myself :) Also, what clip is that you have on the flashlight?
...

First, thanks for your kind words regarding my photo. :)
I shoot with a Canon 50D, and most often, coupled with my EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens.

The clip on my light is infact the clip from Lighthound that Belstaff1464 provided a link to. I have been quite happy with the clip (especially for only $5!!).

Did I hear rumors circulating regarding the possibility of a new Ra Clicky model?

There is a new light rumoured to be under development, but I think it will be more a replacement for the discontinued Twisty. The good money is on it being a hybrid, i.e. a clicky switch to turn it on/off, and a twisty to adjust output levels. I've also heard rumours that it may be a headlamp, in fact I think I may have even started those rumours . But seriously, I don't think the Clicky is going to be replaced anytime soon. The emitter and the UI/firmware may be upgraded, and the holes for the clip will probably disappear, but the Clicky will endure. The new light will most likely supplement the Clicky in the HDS line up. It probably wont be coming anytime soon, either. This is all supposition on my part. Henry plays his card close to his chest

 :poke: Go on !! Take the plunge. You won't regret it. And if you do, you can always re-coup most of your outlay via the marketplace.

Re: The HDS / Ra Junkie Thread.

How about some photos???

But for the time being, let me live vicariously through photos of others' HDS lights...

Oveready only has 1 photo of their orange HDS/Ra Clicky. :candle:

Sorry......still unable to upload photos :(

But check out Taewoopa's pics in the Ra / HDS collection thread post #27. He has the Ti, the Fanta, and the rare Jungle Green in the same frame, the lucky S.o.a.B. . I'm not sure why he has a gap (black ring) between the bezel and the head ? Mine's not like that. It looks like he hasn't tightened the bezel all the way down.

edit: Sorry. It's post #125 in the abovementioned thread.

Re: The HDS / Ra Junkie Thread.

Wow! Thanks for the link Belstaff.

Admiration and jealously rear it's ugly head. I can probably do without the camo, but that Titanium version is just stellar! How many Ti versions did Henry make? And what did they go for? I really missed the boat on that one...

Even that orange cerakote version is kinda compelling in its own right. That'll be a long internal debate on the fanta version since the HDS Clicky I just ordered is also a 170T Custom just like the orange version.

I'll have to see what else oveready comes out with to maybe tempt me into getting a high CRI version in a funky cerakote finish.

Re: The HDS / Ra Junkie Thread.

When is the new RA Junkie coming out and can we get some pics? :takeit: :D

Seriously, though, I can totally understand this strange phenomenon. I have a Milky-ized HDS EDC U60GT, a RA clickie 170 Lumen and a RA 85Tr.

Honestly, I think I might be a junkie as well. I keep wanting more of them. (At least one more of the twisties, maybe one of the high-CRI with wider beam pattern, etc...)

As if I don't have enough lights already.:)

I think there were between 50 ~75 made one of which was all-black AlTiN coated and another was all gold TiN coated. They are indeed rare but not as rare as the Ti Twisties of which only 5 were made and not offered to the the general public. I believe the Ti Clicky went for around $650 and they still pretty much command that price when they come up for re-sale, which isn't very often. When they do come up, they're normally gone within a few minutes. I'd been hunting for one since I joined and I finally managed snag one last week through a knife deal (thanks Pete ). The knife seller sent me a pic of the knife with the Ti Clicky in the shot and I saw my opportunity and I took it :grin2:. The good thing with the Ti Clicky is that it will never become obsolete as Henry said that they will be upgradeable (at an expense of course) as new emitters become available.

The Cerakote versions by Oveready are really well finished. I was extremely happy with the Fanta so I ordered a second one. I had a standard black 170 custom as well and I traded it for the Ti. If you get a chance at the Fanta, I would urge you to pull the trigger. It was $36 more but it came with 5 primaries and cheaper shipping (to Oz anyway). You can always recoup your black 170 on CPFMP for most of your outlay. IMHO, Cerakote is a superior finish than HA and I would be very happy if it became the default coating for flashlights. No more bare ano !! The camo is even rarer. I think Oveready only released 2~3 but I have a feeling that a new shipment is imminent.

Yep.....you're a HDS Junkie alright !!! (Even the letters HDS sounds like a name of a drug).

If the pics request is aimed at me, I'm sorry to say that I can't find my camera computer cable and battery charger. A lot of my belongings are boxed up and in storage ATM. Plus I'm still waiting for the Ti and Fanta 2 to turn up. The wait is killing me !! I'll see if I can borrow a camera when they get here. But my pics won't be anywhere as nice as Taewoopa's. His are pure PORN !!

Actually the Twisty is just simply discontinued while the new UI light will be probably a replacement for the Clicky as we know it and all present Clicky's will become what the Twisty already is - out of production classics and regardless of how many of the new lights I get, I will still keep my Clicky.

Of course it is possible that Henry will continue to offer the Clicky alongside the new light, but only time will answer that question.

I think there's a good chance that this will be the outcome. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to develop a 2 x AA tube for the Clicky if Henry was working on a replacement. And just a few weeks ago, Henry started a poll regarding changing the Clicky's interface. There was another one regarding disabling the burst feature or making it user programmablits. From that thread, it looks like Henry was convinced by the majority to see if it can be implemented. I believe that the new firmware is currently being tested. I could be way off base here, but all these things point to the Clicky being around for some time.

Definitely will be around at least another year, if not longer, which is when he assumes the new light will be hitting the Marketplace.

I think both you and I will be waiting in line when they come.

Correct on all accounts Belstaff! I was lucky enough to get number 10019 of Henry's Titanium Clicky run last summer

For the record, I've found it very difficult to justify any flashlight purchases since, and any that I have gotten have generally paled in comparison to the 170 tactical Clicky. It's easily the best flashlight purchase I ever made and I'm really glad I pulled the trigger! :D

Re: The HDS / Ra Junkie Thread.

I cannot seem to find any lux values for the Ra Clicky. I am curious what the High CRI lux is at burst and max. I mean values for all would be groovy. I know at Light-Reviews a Executive 140 was tested.

Hello Evan

That 85Tr is a rare light. I know a few people stalking that light :D
