My first Surefire is D2. The P61 lamp assembly deliver 100 to 120 lumens, right?

Yes, same lamp assembly as the 6P and C2. It was rated at 120L but it was probably under that within 2-4 minutes into a constant run. I think the A2 was the only regulated light until Surefire started producing LED's.

Crazy times. My first real flashlight was when those G2 Nitrolon came out. That seemed so bright to me.

And those P61 lamps drew 2.3 amps on 2 123 primaries. Progress is good.

When i was 10/11 we lived in the bush and Everready had a torch called the 'Big Jim' which i think was a sealed beam in a big head and it shone far plus very bright.
The light body had a metal plate behind the head that screwed into the terminals on the battery, loved playing around with it in pitch black nights i would always spot roos, foxes, rabbits, deer wombats etc

...and now you can carry around a light in a back pocket that's brighter, throws further and runs longer. It's pretty crazy how far its come.

I just picked up an old surefire KL1 head with the odd TIROS-type optic in it. Any chance you've played around with this type of optic at any point Vinh? I believe these were from the seoul P4 era, or maybe prior to that? I'm wondering what kind of throw it might have with a white flat 1.

I'm mostly a primary battery, do you have a driver that would compatible with 1/2 cr123's, or a Li-ion cell?

Hi John. TIROS was trademarked by Inova but TIR optics are very common. Vinh has played around with TIR lights extensively and they're some of the most popular lights that he sells.

As far as I know, all VN drivers are optimized to work with li-ion cells. A single 16340 cell light like the VN version of the FourSevens Mini & Turbo MKIII can also use CR123's but you wouldn't get much performance from that configuration. It would be more of a low output emergency mode with a CR123. Perhaps it's a different situation when 2 x CR123 are used in a light designed for 1 x li-ion cell. In that case you've got extra voltage to work a driver that can handle it however, it might be that a light like that isn't optimized for 4.2V max and is therefore slightly handicapped with a single li-ion cell. I would email Vinh if you've got something in mind for your KL1 head. I'm sure he will have ideas right off the top of his head.

With regards to the W1 & W1.1, Vinh has stopped making it an option in many of his lights because the W2 and W2.1 are so close, in the area of throw but they provide a good deal more light output.

Patriot, I'm referring specifically to the TIR optic that was in the early surefire KL1 heads. When Milksypit was active he did several novatac/esrly HDS lights modded with them, which resulted in notably more throw than the reflector could offer.

I found an original KL1 head on ebay, which is damaged (apparently functions, but the positive contact in the base of it has been damaged). I thought it might be a potential candidate for a pocket throw mod. Its not a common optic design, so I assume it would take some time playing with it to determine if its worth using, or if the head should just become a host for another optic or reflector.

Feeling blessed today. This is by far my best flashlight case ever, in every way. It's certainly not a bug out case (it's heavy haha), but rather what I take when I go camping or anywhere I want to play with my lights. Depending on what family is with me, I can switch out the lights easy enough too. Most of the lights have Vinh's touches, but not all. I'm actually surprised how often I forgot to add engraving.

Kevin, that's a really neat set-up. I like how you even plucked out the foam to different depths so that they all sit at a similar height. Also neat that you have a full compliment of cells, cases and other accessories. You put a lot of thought into that package. Thanks for sharing.

Nice work did you cut out the foam?
Pelican case?

Hi Kevin, very nice case and flashlights collection.:twothumbs:twothumbs
Thanks! I have more but don't use them. I think every year I sell ones I don't use and use the money to buy a new light/s haha.

Thanks man. I did put a ton of thought into it. I'm an over thinker haha.

Case comes with what's called "pick and pluck foam." Basically the foam is pre-cut 90% of the way into small squares (looking at it from on top), leaving just a little bit to hold them together until pulled apart.
Plano 108031

Looks so neat.
Well, not as good as your work, but.....haha. Thanks Vinh.

Wow Kevin, that's really efficient use of space! I have 6 boxes as pictured below, but they are shallow boxes & the lights are laid out horizontally.
How deep is your box? I see a long TN42 in there! Do you have the model number of the box?

Those lights look familiar haha. Some serious lights in that box! Up until now I've always used shallower boxes too (about 6 inches deep). My last one, with so many short lights like Emisar D4s, Nitecore MH20, and even the GT Mini, I found I could put those vertical which used the space so much more efficiently in a case with other much larger lights, and decided I would do my whole case like that the next time. The case is a Plano 108031 and measures 21.5x17x9 on the outside and 18.75x14.25x8.25 on the inside, so yeah, the TN42 barely fits. Truthfully I'd rather have a couple of inches more for that light alone, but then it would be overkill for everything else. I'm the only one who will be handling the case though So I'm not too worried about it.

That's what my lawyer said, so I fired him and represented myself at criminal trial, against everyone's very stern advice, and I prevailed. The at-large dog owners' entire testimony to the judge was a big lie, and the judge called the police sergeant out on his blatantly biased police report against me.

Nice! Congrats! Hope they get the guy though.

I've been away for a little bit, but I always pop in to see what Vinh is up to:) And I come back and see that he's cranking out SBT90.2 4000 lumen GT Minis with w/ 905 meter throw?!! Wow! Can anyone point me in the right direction to find beamshots to compare OP vs smooth reflector for this lil beast? I can't seem to find any. Thanks!

Sorry man, he never posted any beam shots.
