Re: The V54 Lounge.

Thank you for understanding. I tried to be discreet by not posting the direct link and also realize no one wants to be hit over the head with sales pitches. Either way I'm glad to be here. In regards to your question, I own the K40Mvn and TK61vn. For me the former is more useful as it lights up more area. I'm not that into pinpoint throwers these days... Cheers!
Thanks, pretty much sums up what I was thinking! They throw far but if if its only a thin beam not much use in real world other tha showing off and I want all my lights to be usefull at the end of the day even if they are just for showing off ahah! K40Mvn needs high drains dose it not? Are high drains protected? (I dont like unprotected in single cell but will put up with it but in a multi cell..erm bit scared!)

Re: The V54 Lounge.

Hey salmon, I totally love my tk75vn kt. Good mix of throw and flood. I picked up a cheep 75 lumen northbound trail (I think is the name) head lamp. I picked it up for like $7. Has a basic 1 led hi, 2 led low, and a red led. It works for now until I can get one of vinh's head lamps.
Hmm I dont actually need 2500 lumens on my head, and if I get the P60 it will only work in hand or helmet, I think a headlamp might be the way to go as can wear it on my head for whatever and on the helmet to! Best of both worlds? Hmm Im going to go look through the for sales threads!

Yep it needs high drain. Most including me prefer Sony VTC5. They are unprotected. Not a big deal if you keep an eye on them.

Protected high drain are few and far between, and also are longer so they put extra wear on the battery caddie. In this case the 18650PF will suffice.

Re: The V54 Lounge.

So question about that head lamp. Do you guys think it would be worth it to try and de-dome the led's??
What is the best route to take for de-doming without the use of heating the led as I do not have access to a heat pad/gun?
Thanks guys!

Re: The V54 Lounge.

Hmm OK, dose the light have any kind of protection? Guess it would just be a case of close watching.

Right well got to let bank settle for a bit but next photon blaster will be a HC90 or a Tmack we shall see.

Re: The V54 Lounge.

Hi! Am saving up and deciding which V54 light to purchase. I already have a stock Klarus XT11 which covers my close-up/somewhat floody requirements.

Am now looking for a Vinh thrower in either 1x or 2x 18650.
My 1st choice is a Sky Lumen SL1.
Is there a longer throw or stronger option that's 1x or 2x 18650?
I personally don't prefer to charge more than a pair or use more than a pair of 18650. 3 or more also makes the light much larger /thicker. The general diameter of a single 18650 light is ideal for me.
Would be nice to have a 2x 18650 light with more throw than the SL1. I would be fine with a larger head if that's what it takes but a 1x 18650 diameter body.

TIA.

Hello BloodLust,
Excellent name by the way ha ha ha
Welcom to the V54 lounge!
I'm sure you wont have a problem with recomendations about what light to choose.
From what I have read on the forum here the SL1 is a very good throw option for single 18650.
I do not own one but wouldn't mind having one myself.
I have a PD35vn single and I really do love it for EDC. The reverse cone beam gives me a good throw and flood.
There are definatly higher lumen light options from Vinh though.
Welcom to the lounge!

Same I have a old light that I want to dedom, I have heard about the gas method but don't know much, if you go back a apage you will see my question on it!!

Good luck

Vinh has hundreds of U2 LEDs left, if you ask him I'm sure he would sell you some to try on? I was thinking this myself as I'd love to give it a go.

Re: The V54 Lounge.

That's a good idea Salmon.
Yea Tmack had mentioned something about soaking it in gas.
But I do not know how that works.
I will open it up tonight and see what I am working with.
Might be fun to try de-doming it myself

Re: The V54 Lounge.

my opinion is that headlamps are for flood - so no de-dome necessary :)

unless you want a headlamp that throws.

but just from practical use you really want a headlamp that is a wall of light if possible...

best to pocket a vn thrower to spot long dist. targets while youre using your head lamp ;)

Re: The V54 Lounge.

Ha Ha I agree jmpaul.
It's a habit of mine to take things apart and see how they work.
And then mess with them and end up breaking it

Re: The V54 Lounge.

Success!!
I just de domed my head lamp ha ha.
Took it apart and turned it back on to let the led warm up for a min.
Turned it off and took a razor, lifted the dome carefully and it popped right off.
Turned it back on and it worked fine.
Looks like I got lucky ha ha

Re: The V54 Lounge.

^^I just use a 80w solder iron and weight it down on the plastic end then hold the led on the solder iron with plyers then do as vinh does

Re: The V54 Lounge.

So I was able to remove the plastic covering from the headlamp that was obscuring the beam.
I installed a rouns piece of glass from an old light.
Looks a million times better. Now it is just a nice flood beam. With a nice warm tint.
Now I just need to learn how to boost the current to make it brighter ha ha ha

Add resistors.

Re: The V54 Lounge.

Morning folks, I have a old xtar I will have to have a go St then.

So far its been deanodized and polished, but head is filled with holes from a bad cast St factory lol (wasent pitting from the acid bath) as I had two and the other one came out perfect and it was only the head, I also want to mod it to silly power to, runtime unimportant and single mode fine, is there a easy way to make it direct drive?

What kind of knife so you need to dedome? I think we have some scalps somewhere.

Very tempted by the the HC90! (That's a hint for you to talk me into it)

Re: The V54 Lounge.

For the de-dome I recommend you watch how vinh does it on YouTube and follow that. he gives good pointers ie don't scratch the phosphorus coating. Just search vinhnguyen54.
