I’ve been trying to carry the md4 for a week or so in different jackets, but it’s even just a bit big for that, so I am going to get the md3 body. Some reading was saying that it cuts battery life by about 50% with the 18500. Hoping it’s not that drastic.
What drop in are you running?

It’s a great combo, but the cloud defensive clip is much better IMO
I'll tell you this from experience with both companies.... Thyrm, fantastic customer service! Had an issue one time with an order. Thought it was lost in the mail. Contacted them. They immediately issued me a refund! Most companies would have said, sorry but you chose the cheapest shipping option through USPS and that doesn't come with tracking. Nope! Instant refund from Thyrm with an apology. Ironically, 2 weeks later my original order arrived. I contacted them, explained what happened, and re-sent my payment to them. Most customers would have just quietly kept the items. But Thyrm treated me right.

Cloud Defensive on the other hand, absolute worst customer service experience ever! First time ordering, things went well. Second time, very different. Sent me the wrong item, they made it a nightmare to return it, even though I wanted what I ordered; not a refund. Then sent me an empty box! I immediately contacted my credit card company and did a credit card charge-back. (Had already sent them back the wrong item they originally sent me.) That was an issue as I got a customer service rep. who initially couldn't believe that a reputable company would do that. I told her she was right.... So clearly I wasn't dealing with a reputable company! Got my refund, never bought from those in my humble opinion, worthless scumbags ever again!

Don't care if the C.D. one is a better design. The guys over at Thyrm are a higher class of human-beings and deserve success.

thanks for that info. I never had to experience CS from either of them so this is new to me, I just went based off user reviews. I personally tried the thyrm LPC and it was great, I do like the CD clip how it is lower profile and deeper carry. Customer service goes a long way. I have several thyrm battery containers and they are awesome

I currently have both clips. I like the thrym because it won’t scratch things up like the metal clip and with the md3 I don’t think I’d be able to have it be a deep carry without being too big.

18500’s are 2300 mah 18650’s are 3500-3600? So it shouldn’t cut run times in half.
Do you have experience with both of the keepower 18500 listed on illumn? 2000mah Vs 2300mah ? Will they both work ok in an md3? The higher capacity is cheaper, but the higher capacity dimensions are also smaller.

Are you using a head that needs more than 3.5V? If not the 21700 body is really good IMO. The worst part is finding a workable clip solution.

I too like how the plastic LPC neither scratches my car, doors, chairs, etc; nor does it scratch the light it’s mounted to. The CD clip is super robust though. I also like how the LPC adds a small lip at the tailcap that makes it easier to draw out of the pocket and use a syringe grip.

Does anyone know if the 3 mode lights still use visible PWM?

I have an older M361N (XPG2) that has really obvious, to the point of occasionally annoying PWM on the lower modes. From memory the EDC lights were the same.

Generally I don’t mind PWM if I can’t see it in use but the frequency on these Malkoff 3 mode drivers is too much for me, so I’m hoping they’ve changed.
Just ordered one M361-LMH V2. Didn’t know about problem with visible PWM.

Hopefully the driver has changed, or if not that it doesn’t bother you too much.

Let us know how you go with it.

It seems there are only two places to buy 18500…illumn and malkoff. Is this an indication that they won’t be available in the future? Any speculation on that?

Here’s a list of 18500 and places to purchase

Illumn is great and so is Malkoff. It’s hard to say what will be available for the foreseeable future, I would just go with 18650 size IMO, there’s a lot of them available.
I just ordered some from Illumn. I just ordered an md3. I already have the md2 and md4 but I need all options! It’s been an expensive hobby month.

You really do have bad Google-fu if you can’t find 18500 batteries anywhere. 😁

Glad you found what you needed. You can’t go wrong with Malkoff.

Well I found them, but my point is I’ve only found protected keeppower at Illumn and malkoff’s website. I would’ve thought they’d be available at more places than that. My biggest concern is them being obsolete soon. But I guess worst case scenario I’d just have to use primary cells, which is not ideal.

Looking for some help confirming info I found…I have an m31 drop in for a Surefire 9p that I currently use with a AA spacer.

If I were to use it with a Malkoff md3, is the diameter needed for a spacer 18mm? According to Illumn, that’s the diameter of an 18650.

Main reason for this set up versus the Surefire would be to use the high low switch and still use AA
