The Malkoff Front Porch

Yes they're too long. I had Liion protected 18350s, but I compared the measurements to several other brands and they were all too long.
I think I saw you can do it with unprotected cells, but then it runs regulated, and you might not notice they're drained until you've over-discharged the cells...so, PROBABLY a bad idea (especially since two cells tend to not drain both evenly).

I might be thinking of 16340s, though, as two KP protected 16340s definitely fit in an MD2 (that's what I run in my M61HOT MD2).
So, I'd imagine two unprotected with the extender would work, but I only have one 18350 (Surefire), and it's extra big, so I can't confirm anything, haha.
The KP 16340s are ~34mm, and so if you got two 18350s that were on the shorter side (Vapcell M11 button top is 35mm), with the extender, that might work.

Again, I don't think it'd be a good idea due to the regulated output giving little sign of the voltage, and the variation in voltages across multi-cell setups, but if you REALLY needed it for a short term use, this might work.

I know for a fact (at least for my malkoff) that the keeppower 18350 x 2 fit into my MD2 with one malkoff extender so maybe try that?

They even fit without the extender and the light functions properly but I wouldn't recommend because they did semi-permanently overcompress the head spring and there was increased rattle when switching back to 18650s but still worked fine. Took a couple months to get back to about normal. I exclusively use one of my MD2s with an extender M91T and 2 keeppower 18350s. Probably safest to use with 2 extenders but i dont like the look.

Edit: protected button top keeppower 18350 1600mah. 38.9mm long.

Looks like the crenelated steel bezels screw down flush now on the MDC heads. That wasn't the case back in the day. Can anyone confirm?
Edit: cancel that question. Scrolled back and have seen enough photos that show them mounted flush.

What's the allure of using this setup?
(2) 18350 w/extender has to be damn near the size of an 18650 setup
Might be a touch smaller, but also less juice.

I know I saw this here somewhere, but I cut a lumens factory pocket clip in the back and spread it out to fit the md21700 body and it's next to perfect and sits like a deep carry clip.

If anyone has seen a clip made this size, I'd appreciate knowing where I can get one.

from what I read this one fits the 21700 body pretty well

Ah yes. I have that clip, but I'm wondering about a clip that can go on the tail cap. A noctigon clip fits, but because it's deep carry, it sticks way up. So I might look for a regular noctigon clip.

alright so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the M91BN and absolutely love it, it really is a very nice wall of light - both of high and low very usable. It's awesome - so thanks to all for their recommendation of it.

With that said i am having one slight issue - the head of the light starts rattling after some use of the light, and turning the head to turn it from hi - low ect…

I've come to find that the gold hi-low switch is backing out and allowing for movement of the lens and drop in - which causes the rattling - then I have to tighten down the hi-lo ring to correct it.

Is there something I'm missing? Or am I needing to really tighten the hi-lo right super hard to avoid this from happening?

Just torque it down more.

You can find videos on the Malkoff YouTube. Gene uses an impact driver to install them, hahahha.

I don't do THAT tight, but I do use some snap ring pliers, and I have it a good tightening.
I once had a similar issue, but tightened it up, and it's been good since.

Congrats on the M91BN!

I've had Malkoff retaining rings back out sometimes. I just put a small dab of blue Loctite inside the head threads where the ring would sit. The solid glue stick type of Loctite is easier to work with, just scoop a tiny chunk and mash it into the threads. Reinstall the ring and let it cure 24 hours.

Did Malkoff install the hi/low ring?
I ask because they are usually tightened very snug. In the past it took a gorilla to break one loose.
The ring needs to be cranked down or during the head rotation it will unscrew the brass ring.

If you don't have the tool, call up Gene and ask him to send one. If you have the tool stick a 8-10" steel rod through the hole and crank it down 🦧

Thanks for all the replies.

Gene did not install it, I ordered all the parts and installed it myself. First time installing it and was afraid to over tighten as I thought it may cause pressure on the lens / drop in …

Now I know there is no risk of breaking anything I will tighten the ring down properly using a ton of force.

I don't have the tool as some mentioned - but I assume some needle nose pliers each in one of the holes and turning tightly might do the trick.

For those that use the loc tite - are you guys able to unscrew the lo-hi ring if needed, if so how?

I fear using that stuff because I'd like to be able to take the light head apart to service it in the event of a broken lens or changing out the drop in… ect ect. - not that I really would be taking it apart often but would like to have the option for it if needed - without having a headache on my hands.

For now I'll just tighten the ring as hard as I possibly can, - before I was going easy on it. This time I will really crank down on it and hopefully that solves the issue.

Thanks all

Blue Loctite is temporary and easy to break apart, especially if only a small portion of the circumference of the threaded surface is treated. I use it on all my knife pivot screws (except for the Sebenza) to prevent loosening over time and retain the correct tension and action.

It's not to be confused with the red version, which is considered permanent. Using that would give one a headache.

Thank you, never realized that. Thought all loc tite was the same guess not haha!
