md17, thanks so much for the suggestion. I had Lee filters and tried the various minus green versions. 803 was what I used and it's night and day better. Still not 100% perfect but man, 90% better than what it was and I don't feel I lost much output.I bought one of those from here a while back. It's my favorite large size Malkoff. It came with a Lee minus green filter on it and gives it a slight pink color and it makes it next to perfect. I actually saw that one posted on eBay. Nice find.
I actually didn't even know the filter was on it for a couple weeks, being that I bought it used. Then I realized how much of a difference it made. I'm not sure the exact filter number, but it takes it from yellow to rosy. Not a huge difference outside, but makes it much nicer to use on low mode inside.md17, thanks so much for the suggestion. There's a guy on Etsy that makes a shorter deep carry clip for MDC lights. I bought one from him and it's nice. My MDC cr123 light rides nice and low in my pocket now.
So glad it's not an MDC AA or I'd have a big struggle. These emitter choices are fantastic. Let us know if you pick it up.Oh, lord...

A special edition with the warmest light. Blow away cold winter nights with the warm glow of candlelight, with the high power you've come to...www.kosen.one
Kosen was possessed by a wallet stealing demon for 2025, hahaha.
Supposedly that wallet stealing demon will be inbound soon. And I'm prepared to be possessed. So glad it's not an MDC AA or I'd have a big struggle. These emitter choices are fantastic. Let us know if you pick it up.

That's where I am at. That seems really neat, but I don't have anything that warm, and I'm not sure how much I'd use that. The last one was a bit too cool, and this is a bit too warm, but both are tempting...That's nice. Way too warm for me though
Ah, okay. I have the M61 run of the 3500K that was supposed to be 4500K, and it's really pretty. AA MDC??? Jeez...I need to stop coming to this site, haha. I might be a bit obsessed with Malkoff and AA lights, so these are kind of my weakness.A rerun of the 3500k MDC AA is also close. Been waiting!
Regarding the warm 1800k Malkoff, I kept chasing a light that looked like a candle or flame in color temp for the nightstand. I ran across an orange / amber light and it was very "fire-like" but color rendering was terrible/impossible (maybe to be expected). Then I chased high cri into warmer realms. The warmest I have currently is a 2100k 219b if I recall correctly. At night, it's funny, it still doesn't look candle warm to me. So I think that's where this 1800k comes in. Really warm and as Kosen says, able to still discern color if going through your sock drawer in the morning when it's still dark. Niche uses for sure. I see pics of people walking in the woods with very warm emitters. Not my personal preference but I find it interesting that some like that.
I'm on team 3500K-4000K is perfect everywhere, all the time. I can stretch that to 3000K at night indoors, and 4500K for when I really need to see a lot, but I think 3500-4000K is perfect as an all-arounder.3500k IMO is very nice both outdoors and indoors. Probably one of my favorite. I'm patiently waiting for a 2xAA 4500-5700k. I'd really like that FFL 5000k in a 2xAA or CR123 voltage
I have an MDC 2xAA (originally on a CR123 body) from Illumn when Gene worked with them a lot back around 2016 that's 219b in 4500k. I'll be putting that up for sale when I pick up a warmer Kosen. Not sure if anyone still fancies that old Nichia line = ) or the old Malkoff body styles. Classics. Nice. I've owned the 219b 4000k MDC before and it was nice. I'm a huge 219b fan. If you can confirm that it's a 4500k 219b I'll buy it off you asap. Can you send me a tint shot of it?
