So I did end up getting this drop-in. However, I had an issue where there was intermittent flickering when on low using the MD2. As such, I ended up sending it back and exchanging it for the last M61NH 519a 3500k.
Regarding the tint, it personally wasn't my thing as I'm in the ~4500k and below but based on pictures I can say that I like 519a on 5700k better than what I had. Also, as many of you know. With the dome less emitters, there were beam artifacts which I expected going into it.
Is the niche of the FFL emitters CRI, then? Did you notice it throwing significantly better than the 519A or SST-20?I recently got the FFL 5k installed in my reylight Lanapple. For me personally, I love it. I found the tint to be phenomenal. I'd love to have this led in an MDC 1-2v AA or CR123 version with 3 mode

100% this. I understand there can be production issues and it was likely mine was a one-off...and so just chose not to post versus posting something negative.
Also 100% this. What Kosen and Malkoff are doing with these collaborations are definitely appreciated by our small community.I think with both Kosen and Malkoff being small businesses, I can understand people not wanting to say or post anything that could be detrimental (I think most of us like the Kosen specials, and would like them to continue).
There was nothing distracting at all. Just making sure to point out that it isn’t a beam like you would get out of a domed emitter. Should’ve realized my audience on this point.Beam artifacts are interesting, because Malkoffs tend to be "use them and see" versus "white wall" performers, but I could see there being a point where artifacts are distracting. Were they minor ones (dark rings? halos?) or more major (uneven beams? cut off edges?)?
It definitely had significant throw compared to the 519A or SST. But I also feel like throw is very subjective. It was certainly more noticeable though. Is the niche of the FFL emitters CRI, then? Did you notice it throwing significantly better than the 519A or SST-20?

Yeah high CRI and the tints are clean, domeless. No green at all. It does throw very well, more than the 519a. Throw vs the SST is negligible, I prefer the FFL and 519 over the SST20, however the SST20 would suit my needs perfectly if nothing else was availableIs the niche of the FFL emitters CRI, then? Curious how it compares to the m91bn on reduced output.I have one.
I think it's super nice, very clean, pure white tint.
I have no complaints with the beam, no artifacts or anything, at least in an MD2. Definitely has a little bit of throw, and I've had no reliability issues.
My one complaint is the output does, to me, feel a bit low, mostly compared to the M61SHO.
I'll try and get some beamshots once it gets dark. I would definitely rather have this emitter over any SST20/519a.
How long have you had it? Maybe I got a new version and that’s an old picture.Mine looks like the one on his website
Interesting. I think the last round of MDC AA's that were 4500K were originally supposed to be 3500K. I got the 4500K, and it's very nice.MDC AA incoming from Kosen. Looks like it's going to be 519a 3500k. At least that's what it says in the description.

Why we built this: For those who spend lots of time in the dark, or require globally available commodity batteries, the MDC AA HCRI brings the same...www.kosen.one
I CAN swing 3000K and 3500K, but 4000K is my favorite. I think I still prefer my SST-20 because of the softer hotspot, and because it's got a beautiful 4000K beam.3500k is very nice. One of my favorites, however I was hoping for a cooler temp
Kosen likes those warm temps that's for sure
Still, may have to get one. Mode spacing is superior on those
Wish I could just buy the head
I may go with the stock 4000k AA again or even try the 5700k. Price is better, and I’m at the point where I don’t really care too much about the niche of LEDs. Plus I’d hate to spend $185 on another light just when I only need the head. Already have the 3500k in li-ion and it’s greatI CAN swing 3000K and 3500K, but 4000K is my favorite.
