The Malkoff Front Porch

The cloud defensive deep carry clip is an awesome option for the md bodies.

its def nice and small. I want the new body cr123. Id say about 30 minutes on high for runtime.

Another nice clip option for the md2 or even better, fivemega md1.5 is the cloud defensive deep carry clip with the Malkoff body extender grip ring

That right there is a nice, chonky setup. I used to have the same one but ended up selling it. What drop-in are you running in it?

I like it with the m91bn. Even with reduced output, it’s glorious. But it’s nice that it can be interchangeable, but I prefer the high low rung set up versus the 3 mode on the md body.

Love the tint in the M91BN. I agree with you on the high-low vs the 3-mode on the MD2 as well. I always inadvertently activate the switch so I'm never really always starting on low how I'd like to. Same goes for the MDCs. I have most of my lights down to M61s with high-low in the MD2 or a lower output M61NL with a VME in my MDCs. My only variable output light now is an HDS rotary because of the user interface on it is amazing.

Does anyone know if the Illumn 219b M61s ever get restocked? I feel like I've been checking forever and never see them.

You may want to try emailing Craig. He's pretty responsive. I don't know the answer to your question but all my 219b + Malkoff purchases from Illumn were in 2016. Not sure if those products have been actively restocked in recent years.

I think i bought the last one on illumn maybe 6 or 7 months ago. Totally worth picking one up when/if he gets them back in stock.

No greens or purples here.
So, I'd reached out within the last year about some of the M31 modules. He said the special buy limit has gotten larger, and the volume doesn't move a whole lot...so...

I'd recommend e-mailing him. He'd last restocked maybe 2 years ago, and most everything sold out up to now. Many had been "in stock" until you added them to your cart, so I had dragged my feet and missed a few I was interested in.

If he sees a demand, I think we might get another run. The 4000k 219B looks really nice, but I don't think the M31 series is popular, anymore :/

I like the idea of the VME head, just not a fan of the look and weight. I feel it could be improved with a larger lens opening and possibly some type of knurling or machined grip lines.

3 mode M31 would be nice

I know some are not about the VME with a drop-in, but I really like an M31 on an AA MDC body in a VME head. A 3-mode M31 would be interesting.
I just tried this and got close to 1 hour before I noticed a dip in output. Any idea how many lumens you get from 1AA with the m31. I saw the figure somewhere recently, but can’t find it.

For the W, it's ~90-50 lumens:

Obviously, for cool white, it's much more output:

These are from the ever lovely runtime thread:

Is there any pink in this emitter ?
Long story short, the last run of MDC AA ended up with 4500K, and the M61 ended up with 3500K because the emitters got mixed up at some point.

So, I have what ended up being a 3500K 519A M61 from Kosen. It has a rosey pink color. Against an M61N with the SST-20, the difference becomes stark (the SST-20 looks very green, while this looks very pink). Mine is pink enough that I can see a rosiness to it when NOT comparing it to anything.

If you like rosey beams, it's VERY pretty. I'm not super big on rosey, and actually prefer a green tint. While I initially planned to get this when it first came out (way back when), and ended up with a 4500K AA, and 3500K M61, I'm really on the fence. I love the MDC AA, and I was shocked how much I liked the 3500K, but I already have an MDC AA in 4000K SST-20 and 4500K 519A, and I had to pay my tax bill this month, haha.

100% buying the MDC AA 3500k unless everyone on here snatches them up before I can checkout.

Will be my first non de-domed 519a and I’ve never seen this color temp in 519a but I’m pretty sure it’s about exactly what I want. Anxious to get it in hand and check it out.

I’ve been running the 4500k de-domed to get 3300-3500k but a lot of rosiness and throw. This should be a much nicer (punchy) beam as it used to be called so often in the McGizo Haiku posts while also being more neutral than the dedomed 519s.

Did Kosen contact you to point this out and help you with a path forward? I’d like to assume yes. Just curious. I’ll make sure to check mine out try to make sure it’s 3500k!

Yes I got one of the orange ones. It is very durable, but it's also recessed so the likelihood of damaging it is low. Very bright for several minutes after using the light and I'd say it could be at least noticeable in a very dark room overnight.
I was looking at one of the orange ones (favorite color), but now that the reference above to the green was posted, I want to know if there is a reason green would be visible for longer.

Oh, this was maybe a year ago...? It was a one-time thing when Kosen first started.

No one realized it had happened apparently until the last minute. I'd bought it, and then noticed the listing said 4500K, not 3500K, so I reached out, and he explained the snafu.

At the end of the day, 4000K and 4500K are my favorite CCT, so I was pleased as punch, haha.

IIRC, green is more effective as it's more in line with the natural color of phosphor. Like, WAY BACK WHEN, they'd used phosphor paint in bomb shelters, and it was that neon greenish white color.

I think the new development is that we CAN have any colors of glow in the dark.

519a 3500k is phenomenal, my top favorite. I may hold off on this one only because I have the li-ion version. We'll see. 519a 3500k on right, 4000k 519a on left

519a 3000k,519a 3500k, 219b 4500k
Thanks for the pictures! It's interesting. The jump from 3500 to 4000 (first picture) looks typical from my experience. But the second picture, the 3000 to 3500k, that looks like quite a bit of difference. If you told me the left was 3000k, I'd have guessed the middle at 4000k easily. Anyway, pics are helpful. Pretty clear 3500k introduces warmth (vs white color) and there's a pinch of rosy. Niiiiice!!!!

the 519a 3500k is perfect at night, but feels very warm during daylight. I’d feel the AA 3500k would be great around the house at night, early mornings, and late night bathroom breaks based off the output levels. The li-ion model works best during the day considering 500 lumens of output, I’ve been carrying it everyday since purchase and use at construction jobs and early morning routines, sometimes I’ll throw my half empty CR123s in it for even a lower output. Provides around 10-15 lumens on first level vs the 30 lumens on a li-ion
