NS, What battery (s) fit running with the lego MD1, OR Ext, and Malkoff tailcap?

With the OR 18650 extension, it's the same length as an MD3 with all the same cell options. I prefer this more versatile setup to the MD3 because it allows me to dramatically shorten the body for deep pocket carry. It doesn't cost much more than an MD3 body, and I prefer the grip of this setup as well.

Without extension (MD-1 only):

• CR123a
• 16340
• 18350

With extension:

• 3xCR123a
• 2xCR123a + 340mm dummy
• 16650 + 340mm dummy
• 18650 + 340mm dummy
• 2x18500
• 2xAA with sleeve

You can run all of these cells with an MD3 body, but you would have to always use the long body and include an 18650 dummy in your "kit". With this setup, just remove the extension for the shorty setup.

Hope this isn't off-topic, but the initial post does say "all things Malkoff"...

In my search for a good headband for "straight-line" (instead of "angled") flashlights, I stumbled on this one from Malkoff: https://malkoffdevices.com/products/malkoff-headlamp-holder. Twice the price of the Amazon item below (plus certainly shipping/handling, etc), but perhaps better: the lateral positions would suffer from the same lack-of-tilt-adjustment, but the top positions could perhaps work, and perhaps the flashlight would be firmer due to the Velcro fastening.

This was a cheaper one I found on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GD7Z68C/?tag=cpf0b6-20. I didn't like it that the 'lateral' (right and left side of the head) positions would not allow one to easily tilt the light up or down, but I think the 'top' (over the head) position would. Not sure how firm would be the flashlight on that position (just the two smaller elastic bands fastening the flashlight to the top strip of the headband seem too little) , nor other possible issues with that headband.

Does anyone know of any other solution (to be able to use straight flashlights in a headband, while being able to easily adjust the inclination), or has any experience with the above, specially the Malkoff?

It's been a while since I've ordered Malkoff, so of course I had to order one.
This will go on a Malkoff 14500 body, my preferred size.

I never thought about putting it on my AA body with a 14500. It has the same LED as the AA 4000K 95CRI SST-20 so from 0.3 lumens to 375 lumens in 4000K 95CRI I'm covered. The head also works good with the MDC 123A body and 16650 body.

I have that LMH head on my 16650, and it's my default Malkoff carry. It's a great combo -- and I bet it'd be awesome on a 14500 body.

Mine is the contrary. My M61N SST-20 is yellow, but my MDC XP-L has a beautiful neutral tint with hints of rose, similar to Nichia.

My 91bw has noticeable yellow but the 91bn has none whatsoever. I'm starting to prefer the n slightly more for that reason. Otherwise status quo is warm>neutral.

The 4500-5000k cct range is my preferred flavor.

I have from 1700 to 6500k cct….I always always go back to the 4500-5000k for most situations.

Right now a dedomed 519a 5000k or 5700k is my choice.

@PoliceScannerMan made me try a 219b 3500k and it is fantastic. It's definitely easier on the eyes than cooler tints. At night you can't beat a 3500k for indoors.

The LMH 3.4-6V SST-20 4000K MDC head is excellent. I like it so much that I bought a second. One is on a 1xAA tube with 14500 and the other on 1x123 with 16340.

Primaries have their place, as do multi-cell lights, but probably 90% of my flashlight usage is a single cell li-ion light. That's exactly what these heads are for.

FWIW, the tints on mine are what I would describe as creamy white. My M91BN (an excellent performer in its own right), in comparison, has a much more yellow hotspot and cooler, pinkish spill. It's the classic domed Cree tint shift.

I have an unusual question for you all here. I was at work last night and pulled out my MD3 and noticed that the switch boot and O-ring were missing from the tail cap. They were there when I put the light in my pocket at home and somehow went missing. So my question is this. Is the O-ring for the boot the same size as the O-rings in the battery bumper kit? Is the boot just a standard boot?

The o'ring is 13x3mm. The boot is something like a 6P boot, but call Gene, I'm sure he'll send you at no charge.

I worry about this boot retention design, I'm not confident at all about it, especially for water proofing.
