The Milky M637-M6 : Soul Reaver!!

Wrapped in layers and layers of bubble wrap, plastic, paper and envelopes (thanks Milky!!), the brick-like package finally arrived from Milky Labs. Let's see what it contained :-

What's this? A standard Surefire M6 Guardian?

It's not standard at all! 7 x SSC P4s sit within the crown of this beast.

Bearing the signature of master modder, Milkyspit! An all new clear label to boot!

The Soul Reaver feeds on primary and rechargeable souls, powering itself for around 2hrs.

Taking a rest in its lair.

(Stepped down exposure) The Soul Reaver emits a very nice beam with a smooth transition.

Kudos to milky for this light!! The workmanship looks superb and everything works flawlessly. Emitters and reflectors are well-placed and the light is in near mint condition.

A choice of 3P x 17670 (3.7v) or 3S2P x CR123as (9v) powering 7-series LEDs (brilliant circuit!), giving a runtime of 2 to 2.5 hours. 637 brilliant white lumens for 2 hours is awesome! Exceeding 10w HID performance in both output and runtime without the need to startup. 350ma current flows through its veins.

Although its not the brightest light in my arsenal, it can be considered the most balanced and useful high-powered light I have! Small package, flexible battery options, lotsa light, long runtimes! I could have gone for 1A and 1000 lumens but at the cost of more than half my runtime.

I was gunning for a multi-mode circuit but apparently none exist at the moment to support 7 LEDs in series. But let's hope that will be an upgrade in future! Until then, I am MORE THAN SATISFIED; in fact ECSTATIC about this light, its quality and its usefulness.

Quite impressive that it runs on 3.7V and 9V. I think a Li-ion D would go well with this build e.g. this one:

if it ever comes out of the woodwork. You would be increasing capacity from 4800mAh to 7500mAh plus you would only have one cell to charge.

Hey Scott, when Global express says "Express", guess they meant it!! Truly 3-4 days shipping time (based on a couple of experiences). Yeah I REALLY like it man! Looking back, it was worth the wait... haha... Hope to visit Milky Labs again soon

GR, I'm sure a 10w HID will look outwardly more impressive because of the throw and intensity though! This light is leaning more towards a flood (though not really a dedicated flooder) and has pretty good throw but not screaming; after all, it is a bunch of small + stipplied reflectors! But its really well-balanced!

What you sold your BB? What a waste! Rare and powerful light. If you're used to seeing 75w HID output though, 637 lumens as sheer output is nothing to shout about actually! But in the LED class, it's pretty good!

The thing that makes this build's pricing harsh is that the host SureFire M6 flashlight costs nearly as much as the mod itself... and that's if you get a good discount somewhere! Then the rechargeables and battery holder add to the pain, unfortunately... all this before the head has even been opened to perform the mod.

That said, it really does turn out to be a nice light. The M6 body is great to hold, the tailswitch easy to use, and the reflector array at the business end slips into place so precisely that you'd half-swear SureFire designed the head for it. I guess at the end of the day, that's what sticks in your mind, long after the sticker shock has gone away.

Yes, I've gone through the pain of buying the M6 and accessories, too... eventually had to have one for myself. I got jealous!

Best you give Milky a tinkle Pricing will vary depending on the price of the latest LEDs, maybe some new process improvements that Milky might have found after doing a few of the same lights or maybe even finding out the first few lights he did were undercharged because it was harder than anticipated! :laughing:

But as mentioned, the M6 itself is around US$300+. You might be able to recover a little from selling the bulbs that come with it (MN20 and/or MN21) and the batt holder (but then you won't have the options to use primaries in your M6). You can do a custom maglite host instead; maybe some cutdown and grooved/fluted head but I'm not sure about fitting 7-LEDs in a mag head (smaller than M6) Prob about 6 max like Elektrolumens Tesla-6.

I do feel a tinge of regret not playing with the M6 for while in its original form before sending it to Milky Labs; but to save on shipping, it was wiser for me to send it straight from the dealer to Milky. Oh well, I have played with an M6 before and luuurve it... but no-no to the runtimes.

Beautiful creation! I take it! Some modes and regulation woulda been nice but I'd always leave it on high anyway. I can't see myself using this light to make a fridge run in the middle of the night. That baby is for blinding something!

It uses the same lens gasket as the stock light but has it mounted outside rather than inside, so it's tough to say. I haven't heard of any leaking as of yet... I suspect this is NOT the light to take diving with you, but it should handle even the most extreme storm and an occasional drop in a puddle without incident.

Just for clarification, this light is regulated, with flat output of roughly 637 lumens for essentially the entire runtime of the batteries.
