Re: Malkoff M91

If anyone out there has the newest M91 and wildcat can you tell if the wildcat throws more then the M91? I'm thinking it doesn't. The lux is less but I guess the extra 500 lumens helps but that's kinda what's stopping me from getting it. To me the M91 is a huge wall of light that has pretty decent throw. But if the wildcat throws more like 20-30 yards more I'd be real happy.

If you are going to go for the CW version then it might be close. That WC in neutral is so good looking. Malkoff has us where he wants us. Wanting and thinking about a million different versions at once.🙂

Re: Malkoff M91

Like others have said, the WC and M91 series overlap a fair bit, but most people here seem to have their preference for one or the other.

I have three WildCats and only one of the M91, with no question which I prefer.

WildCats include v1, v2, and v5W, plus the M91N5000K.

As nice as the M91 can be, I have lots of other alternatives that can fill in there. Not so much for my 'Cats.

Are your three Wildcats Neutral or are they CW or mixed? Just curious. You need that V6.....Neeeeeed it. lol.

I am not sure how many tint options they had as far back as the WCv1 and WCv2, and I think those were the regular stock production versions ... technically, cool white I suppose, although both of mine have a vanilla white tint (what I call "frosty white" , very clean)

My WCv5W is extremely warm in tint, and extremely floody in beam ... what I call "bottled sunset" (lol)

And as far as WC needs go, it would seem that I "need" the v3, the v4, and the v6 ... 😱oo:

Oh yes, fill in your gaps. BTW I don't really have any V5's😀

I would call the tint on the neutral V6 "A creamy addictive tint, like a hottie on an island."

Re: Malkoff M91

seven v5´s? really?

LOL. No, I stated above I was just kidding. I don't even have one, and I don't even want to look into them atm because I see about $600 of stuff I want already from Malkoff.

I am lucky that the TIR does not play well with neutral beams, or I would really be spending too much. I want a Hound Dog XM-L in Neutral and a M91T with a MD3 body and some 18500's....Does it ever end?

I put my M61N on a MD4 body and it is noticeably brighter than the MD2 body and INFRNL's graphs show it. Sucker can run about 400 lumens for 4 hours I think.

I wouldn't mind a v5.

Re: Malkoff M91

I have three WCs, hmmm different Gens and most are Neutral I believe.

They (WCs) are just real room/area flood lights that have such power you can use them for intense lighting.

For example when you pull over a car at night from a regular patrol cars distance to the car that you pulled over the wildcat will just put a crazy hot spot around the whole vehicle, the M91 more or less not quite as big of coarse but is a wonderful light that I use in the backyard and out in the shed and for general purposes.

If I was a patrol officer in more of a municipal setting and wasn't worried about distance and "throw capabilities" I would carry an M91 in an MD3 all night long.

If it helps, my every day carry "work" light is an M61T, it's kind a like mixing the M91 cross with a wildcat in a compact format if that makes any sense, it has incredible intensity but the ability to have a low mode really helps the high mode is wonderful for identification purposes.

I do want to add though that the ideal light obviously is not the same for everybody because especially when you go to mount the light to a weapon system wwhether you're going to carry it in your hand or you're going to make it a dedicated light for a rifle there's a lot to factor in about your environment and how sensitive your eyes are which could just be if you're younger you can see a little bit better and you might not need a wildcat on the end of year carbine, hahaha

I have seen it done and let me tell you the fourth generation wildcat I believe that has the triple LED array mounted to the front of an AR is an unbelievable close quarters combat combination.

Thanks, this is great info.

Re: Malkoff M91

Just making sure we're paying attention? LOL. I was about to ask for a family photo!

Lol, it would be a very non existent family. I can't decide what to buy next so I guess the HD XM-L MD4 then when the M91t is back in stock I can grab one with a MD3 body.

Need a Malkoff question answered fast please

Can someone confirm that the Wildcat MD3 and MD4 are that same lumen output? 1600/1500 for either light?

Re: Need a Malkoff question answered fast please

I'd say yes.if you use higher voltage with most Malkoff Dropins you will get slightly higher output but not much. So depending on what batteries your using you may get a few more lumens with the MD4 if you used 4X Primary Cells maybe. But doubt you could see it and it would not be practical to run like that.

Re: Need a Malkoff question answered fast please

I have found as the lumen count goes up the less difference I can discern. In my opinion lumen count can be overrated.

Re: Need a Malkoff question answered fast please

Ya you can see the difference between say 20 lumens against 100 lumens but you get into the 1000 plus lumens and very hard to see a 100 or 200 lumens difference.

Re: Need a Malkoff question answered fast please

Thank you guys. I like the longer runtime but the MD3 should be better on the belt, or in the pocket, size wise. I think I'll go that way. 👍
