Hey guys... earlier today, the original Malkoff Junkie thread was inadvertantly deleted. I was able to find cached copies of all pages except page 15. So... to follow are copy and paste of each page. It's not very pretty but at least it's something.

I will be closing this thread when I am finished and starting up a new one for you all with a reference to this thread.

Sorry guys... this sucks, I know. But at least it is not a complete loss... :(

The official Malkoff Junkie thread. AKA The Malkoholics[/h]
Am I the only one?

When the Malkoff family comes out with a new product, you just have to have it?
cool.gif

Are you a Malkoff Junkie? Do you buy Malkoff products, when you really shouldnt? Or dont need them?
redface.gif

IMO, Malkoff devices are affordable to the common man, and have the best bang for the buck in the flashlight world, period.
happy14.gif

So if You are a Malkoff Junkie, sound off!!!
buttrock.gif

I'll start a list.

I have a few, what are the qualifications? I think there should be a set number for one to be a "Malkoff Junkie" I don't know that I'm there.

Anyway, I've talked to Gene (good guy) just wish he brings back the M60 and gets better soon.

. I have three Surefire host waiting on Malkoff devices but ever since I became interested in them the M60 has been sold out and well of course so is the M61. I refuse to to put any other drop-in in my host until I get at least one M60 or M61.

I am a Malkoff junkie, albeit I dont have enuff money to fund all my aspirations
broke.gif
.

I currently own an M60, M60W, M30, M30W and the elusive and orgasmic M61
grinser2.gif
.

All of which have their own surefire host which are kept in pristine condition... 'cept the one I use on duty of course
thumbsup.gif
.

Might as well add me to the list... My wife says I am certifiable for all the stuff I have, especially after the pissing, whining, anxiousness, and victory dances after I got that M61 order in; not to mention the squealing and giggling after I got it home and lit her up for the first time. I though I was gonna pee myself... and then realized that I did

Stay Safe... and addicted to Malkoff (hope your feeling better Gene)

M60LL in a G2
M60LL in a 6P

I want another M61 to put in another 6P, and maybe an M60L

Count me in too, just got a two stage MD2 with the bezel down clip, my current favorite. It was good as a single stage but rose to the level of flashoholic perfection when I added the resistor and bezel down clip. The design kind of reminds me of an old ARC LS. Simple, clean lines. Would love to see the MD2 offered in natural HA. I saw one in a pic on the forum but have never seen them on the Malkoff site. I've been searching for the perfect led for years but it wasn't until the M60W that I felt that led's had finally reached the point where the color rendition and throw met and exceeded that of the incan SF p60.

MD2, M60W, M60WLF, M60L

I currently only have a M60W with a very centered emitter and awesome beam. Had a M60W MCE and a regular M60. So glad I have at least one M60 still. I bought the very last one on his site before the M61 took over. What an exelent product and if you talk to him you realize you dealing with a very good guy.

You're going to have to put me at the top of your list PSM. You know I was your enabler. I currently have 4 full lights and extra modules and have more hosts on the way to make it 6 complete Malkoff's and will still have modules in other hosts.
biggrin.gif

Actually I lied. I have 5 complete Malkoff lites. Two MCEs in oher hosts and a couple other modules. When I get the latest I will have 7 complete Malkoffs and others in solarforce hosts. The Wildcat of course tops the list. Its awesome.

Re: The official Malkoff Junkie thread.[/h]
Oh, man. I definitely fit this category.
Making this list from memory, I have:

(Every Malkoff body has a hi/low ring)
MD4 Wildcat Version 1 (quad XRE, warm white) - excellent bike headlight on cyclopblock mount
MD4 M60W-MCE (flood)
MD3 Wildcat Version 2 (triple XPG, warm white) - large EDC
MD3 M30W with 2xAA
MD2 (camo) M61W (neutral white) - small EDC
MD2 (camo) M61HCRI
MD2 (camo) M61HCRI
MD2 (black) M61W (neutral white) - in car glove compartment
MD2 (natural) M60WF - wonderful peachy white tint, most useful for daily/walking non-weapon use
M60 in SureFire 6P
M30W in FiveMega 3xAA host
P7 module for Maglite and a 2D -> 2x18650 adapter. Might get a few Li-ion D-cells for it sometime.
Mag 3-6D 240 lumen module in Mag 5D light (one of my best throwers, nice white tint)
SolarForce L2P, M61W (module wrapped with Al foil for electrical continuity and good thermal transfer) - strapped to bicycle helmet
M60 mounted on AR15 with Surefire Scout body and Valiant head
Valiant with a Surefire KX2 head and diffuser from Surefire Scout weapon light (backup EDC)
2 SureFire 6p lights with M60 modules mounted on weapons - perfect beam shape and brightness.
M60F - spare, displaced by neutral/warm/hcri modules

It's safe to say that I like Gene Malkoff's "weapons-grade" flashlight products. Wouldn't want to sell any of them, each has its advantages.

The M31 intrigues me, it would be interesting to try one in an MD3 body with hi-low ring and a couple AA eneloops. I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this.

I think I qualifiy to the junkies.

When the Malkoff family comes out with a new product, you just have to have it?
cool.gif

Are you a Malkoff Junkie? Do you buy Malkoff products, when you really shouldnt? Or dont need them?
redface.gif

I don't buy every new Malkoff, but I get those I find useful. Several dropins to different Maglites, and also MD2 and MD4 Wildcat belong to my collection.
Apart from that I am waiting for a standard Surefire 6P and 9P in some week. After have been playing with them a while, I am quite sure each Malkoff dropin will be on the way...

Edit: M60LL and M60LF are on the way to the Surefires.

So this is probably the best place to tell my Malkoff
/Wife story.

Couple of weeks ago my wife picked me up from work and said she was in a real bad mood because she lost the diamond necklace that I gave her as her first present when we were dating. It means the world to her and she was all over town and has no idea where it went. We got home and Gene Malkoff
called to talk about the M61 and other top secret ideas and projects (you will like it but that's a whole nother story). Any way I am sitting on the couch making a mess with potato chips and my wife wants me to get of the phone and couch to come eat dinner. I look down on the floor to see how much of a mess I made and see the chain for the neckless but no diamond pendant. I should note that its dark in the living room I told her I found the chain and she got all excited but not the actual diamonds. I pull out the Malkoff
M60 original in the MD2 host and lay it on the rug and start sweeping across the floor like a radar and see the diamonds shining in the rug underneath the coffee table. Lit them up like a set of cats eyes.

She sees what I did and how I found them and is ecstatic and exclaims; "I Love your Flashlights". I am a hero, crisis over, lots of smooching and happiness throughout the house.

When we go walking at night, which we do a lot when the weather is good (especially when we were back in San Jose CA, She has the Malkoff
M60 MCE in the Solarforce host with extension on 2X18650, doesn't want anything smaller, and I have the Wildcat and at least one M60 and now the M61 as back up. Happy ending and more Malkoffs to come.

I am hooked too!

If Mr. Malkoff
got enough investors he may give Surefire a run as the industry leader. Talking about a sizeable amount, but anything is possible.

What I really love is I have called, and each time the owner picked up the phone. I really like that.

Plus a his wife writes a thank you note on the invoice!
This is something I do for my customers, and I was beginning to wonder if I was the last person doing it.

If they come out with a model equal to the SF L1...God, I may defect! Tired of waiting for the new SF LX1, A light they have had in production, and made for almost a decade .

In closing: Bravo for The Malkoff
Company!

My name is mbw_151 and I am a Malkoff junky. It started out innocently, a step up from a drop in of dubious heritage for my first Surefire, a 6P. Then Gene brought out the "Warm" drop ins and I was hooked bad. I bought Surefires to have a reason to buy drop ins. I have 8 now, 2x M60W, 2 x M60 WF, 3 x M60WL, and a M60WLL. These are my "as reliable and simple as they can get" lights for cars, boats, and when things go bump in the night.

i just like to buy the best tools i can afford...malkoffs are the best...i'm pretty much set on malkoffs; getting a m61 would be redundant (but if available i'd probably hit it)...although if i pick up a few more g2's for general use i would be inclined to put m60LL's in them...

I'm tempted by the MD2 with M60...

I'm not sure what quantity of Malkoff products constitutes being a Malkoff Junkie. Let's see...

2 M30 variants
4 M60 variants
1 MD4 Wildcat
1 MD3 body
1 MD2 Natural w/high-low switch

I'd like to get my hands on a couple of the VME heads for my M30s, as well as another MD2. I definitely want to get into the M61s, but I'll wait for the warm versions (maybe).

So, am I a Malkoff Junkie?

Like most junkies I started with just a "taste" of the product, i.e. an M60 dropin. Moving on the next step was the MD2 in black, then one in orange. The real hard stuff came along in the form of an MD4 Wildcat. A couple of the bezel down clips and a 2 level ring have helped keep the edge off the need.

Who knows what's next? I, too, hear the siren call of an M61...

Count me in, I only have about 4 Malkoff
modules but they are the only thing I use. Plan to get that M61 module.

And I have an module that nobody else here has or likely will have:
A custom M60 module designed to run on 12V or 4xCR123A cells. (Regular production M60 blows up on that voltage, can only take 9V max).

I will see if Gene can build me a special M61 module that too can run on 5V-12V.

Ummm...
1) original Mag Dropin from the very earliest days of Gene making dropins. 2) Four stabdard M60's (three hand made reflector, one optic).
3) M61 on a MD2 body with a two stage switch and a clip (probably my favorite 2X123 right now....the ArcMania SFIII is the only other contender)
4) MD3 Wildcat (and MD4 body)
5) M60WF

I think that's it.

Warm flood, M61, and my others have one thing in common and that is a very smooth light with NO RINGY RINGS anywhere.

Mikellen,
Gene will be coming out with some warm versions eventually. Also, some sort of 'M31'.
I have several of his drop-ins, but no duplicates. I am so glad that at one point I asked Gene to make a non-standard M60WLL (running on 3AAs), since he is now no longer using optics. I'm looking forward to getting some sort of 'M31W' someday, and running it off of 3 or 4 AA eneloops in a 'stretch' SF lego.

I took out my M60 MC-E in a '12P' the other night, lit up the entire side yard, and just started giggling.

I have my M61 in a VME head on an E2E host. Such a beautiful cone of light coming out of such a compact, elegant package...

It will be very interesting to measure the MD2-M61 at ceiling bounce test compared to my MD2-M60 and Fenix TK10.

Count me as a junkie. I have an M60, an M60W, and an MD2/M61. I also plan on picking up a new Wildcat so that I can top a good buddy of mine who has an old-style Wildcat.
biggrin.gif

And yes, Gene's products have a way of multiplying, even when I don't "need" them (which is most of the time). I just can't find a better value out there. The cost of his products, in my opinion, are low in relation to what you get; outstanding customer service and product performance and reliability.

I've learned that it's just the way they do business. It's a small shop, and this kind of quality takes time. I actually appreciate that there's no wait list, and why Gene chooses to operate that way.

Products come out in batches all the time (and at odd times), so it helps to sign up for product notifications and jump on them when they become available. You'll get what you want, eventually. And once you do, you'll understand why there's such a demand.

FWIW, I managed to score several M61 dropins, two MD2/M61s, and an MD3 wildcat in the last month. I'm hooked! Can you tell?

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

FWIW, I got the dropins from one of Gene's dealers. They occasionally get stock and one was able to set a couple aside for me when he got them.

I ended up with a second MD2 thanks to the USPS. Thy were so slow in delivering the first one by Prioroty Mail that I emailed Gene to ask what I should do. Without hesitation, Cathy put a second one in the mail, and said to just refuse delivery of the first one if it showed up. Of course, it came a day or two later (still almost a week late), so I asked if I could keep it. There were OK with that. It's a lot of money to tie up in flashlights, but how could I send such marvelous equipment back?

Getting the Wildcat was just luck- sitting at the computer right when they were released helped alot. But this is their business, and they'll keep making more of everything, I'm sure.

Don't worry, I'm done. Mostly. At least until the M61L's come out.

I've tried a custom drop-in with a XRE-R2 (250 OTF lumens) fitted with a Cree 8 degree optic, and its beam was nothing like that of the Malkoff
M60. There was no spill and the hotspot was dimmer than that from a reflector.

Doesn't the M60 also have a R2 fitted with an 8 degree optic?

How does Mr. Malkoff

Thanks, Bill.

But what contributes to the difference in the beam characteristics? It can't be the flux bin right? Perhaps Gene is using a different brand of optics?

If the optic isn't right distance away the beam really suffers.
That said...... What were the other specifics of the custom drop-in?
Do you know what it's drive level was? May of been more going on than just a optic problem.

Sir, it was a Nailbender XRE-R2 WD tint, with an 8 degree Cree optic, 1.2-4.2V, buck/boost driver, 5 modes, running off of 1x18650, inside a Dereelight CL1H V4 host.

The lens was in a plastic holder, which had a groove on the bottom, and fitted over the LED mount, Sir.

Post #3 in NB's sales thread http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...d.php?t=271519 has a good picture of the drop-in, Sir.

I must admit that I have never had one of Nailbenders optic based drop-in's. The optic does sit in a white holder like Gene's but it looks to have a deeper hole in the middle. At least it looks like it. Perhaps the MC-E under it is throwing me off.

Can the M60 and M30 actually temporarily blind someone at 100 ft, and easily light up objects at 350 feet?

What host are you using for the drop-in? Surefire? Malkoff? Solarforce?

So far, 7 M60's, 2 M60F's and 6 M30's. Now if I could only hit the website when M61's are actually in stock, the world will be bliss. E-mail notification is useless, they are sold out again before I can even open the e-mail.

Recieved my first malkoff yesterday! The M61 and I am very impressed.

The beam is wonderful, smooth and very bright. I put it in a SF C2-HA and I am hap, hap, happy! Not having owned one of Gene's masterpieces before now I had no idea what to expect. For thoes of you who have not had the opportunity to own one - GET IT! I know that they are in demand and sell out rather quickly but given the chance try it - just wonderful!

I am in the market for a M60 now. I want to see what a little more throw would look like.

The M60 is nice, but after experiencing the M61, I wouldn't go back expect for specific applications.

These dropins are sure addicting, plus they just kick butt all around.
Here's my few:

M61 x 2
M60 - Handpicked for a perfect hotspot
M30 - Handpicked for a perfect hotspot
M60LL - Not handpicked, but arrived with a great hotspot.

I'd love to get my hands on an M60W...but have had no luck

This has been brought up a few times before - I seem to remember Gene saying that the extra lumens weren't worth the vastly reduced runtime. You would need 80 lumens + to notice any brightness increase but loose 50% of your runtime - not worth it in my book.

Not necessarily for extra lumens, but for extra lux (with that same sized hotspot

)

M60/E2DL/LX2 have same hotspot size correct?

There are still 17 of the M61's and 4 MD2's with high-low switch available on the Malkoff website.

I wonder if this means the market is getting a little soft for these?

I've got 2-M60s, 2-M60Ls, 2-D-Mag drop-ins (the old copper ones), 1-C Mag drop-in and the latest acquisition, an M61 I bought a couple of weeks ago.

I showed the M61 (mounted in my trusty 6P) to my brother, and he was blown away...he grabs it and heads for the dark basement, saying, "This is the brightest flashlight I've ever seen!" Sweet!

Hey guys.

So far, all I have is my MD2 and MD3 V2. Does it redeem me that they're the only lights I have? No?
jpshakehead.gif

Anyway, I figured this topic deserves some more activity.. And maybe you could list me if I am worthy.
rolleye11.gif

Paracorded my MD3. Partially because I was bored and wanted to try, partially because the extra friction is handy, but mostly because I wanted to add a lanyard attachment point. I asked Gene and he suggested that one could drill a hole in the tail shroud.
eek.gif
Something that I might have been inclined to do if I wasn't such a clumsy ten-thumber. I'd end up drilling the clicky switch to pieces or something.

Gene Malkoff posted this about the M31 which should help you. Disregard the post title in that post, as the thread title is "Malkoff M31". Also, when the M31 is released the 2AA body will also be released.

I guess it's pretty much like Surefires, they say that once you put your hands on one, you can't stop... I opted for the MD2 instead of the 6P, so I think I'll pass on the Surefires (ok ok, easier said than done).
