This Is What I've Been Up to Lately.

However, if you look closely, you'll see there are six different colors - not counting the fiberglass deck cover or the brown 4x4s.

Folks here have seen me talk about Penni the rescued dog.

Well, she has decided to defend her territory from friend or foe. Including the next door neighbor's little grand children. It's scarey having the ferocious looking dog barking at you. I can't have my dog scaring little kids.

Back in the Spring we had a picnic canopy get tossed around by a thunderstorm. Poles got bent so it was destroyed. The cloth was used as a firewood cover by a neighbor. But the non bent poles were set aside for use later.

I bought a roll of critter wire to make the fence on the neighbor's with grand kids side taller and used some poles from the canopy and zip ties to make the 4 foot chain link make a 2 foot (wobbly) extension.

Penni had been putting her feet on the top rail and jumping like trying to get over the fence. Now that there is a wobbly top she sits by the fence and barks. A dog that uses a top rail as a sturdy launch pad won't try that with a wobbly top area.

In the rear corner those neighbors have a pit that snarls at Penni so the trash can creates a physical barrier that keeps her away from the corner. The fence extension wraps around that corner too. So the other dog won't be able to get into our yard either.

@bykfixer, Perhaps Penni would benefit from some time spent with you at Doggy Obedience School. A former girlfriend took her Basengi to classes and the results were remarkable. Both she and Kahuna thoroughly enjoyed the classes.

With Penni being an abandoned dog who was (and still is at times) very fearful we may never know why she was/is so timid at times. And as with rescue dogs often comes mental issues that take time to resolve. One thing is certain and that is she guards her territory from strangers.

The lady next door died and her daughter is moving in a little at a time. She has carpet people and others coming around so Penni lets them know she don't like strangers getting near the fence. The grownups are generally ok with that.

In the recent past some kids were outside while the adults were inside drinking beer and bragging about their new boats. The kids were outside kicking the fence and getting little Chyna whipped into a frenzy. She is a 6# piqua-poo who thinks she's Godzilla. But Penni to the rescue. One little brat was charging the fence. Then when his dad ventured outside to smoke his pipe he saw Penni all upset and came knocking on my door. So I put up the higher wire. No, his little Graham is a good boy and that mean @$$ dog is trying to eat him for no reason.

I had some higher wire up before when we had one rescue who could leap the fence. He'd see a squirrel 3 doors down and chase it. He could jump a 4 foot fence like a hurdle runner. But he saw that extra two feet and stopped.

Mrs Fixer was a dog trainer for a decade before trading her clicker for a set of grooming tools. The issue with Penni is her cropped ears and ferocious looks. People are generally scared of a barking dog but her looks add to the intimidation.

So Cal news recently reported on an alleged pit bull "attack" where the dog was initially deemed "vicious" and ordered to be euthanized. The owners fought back and produced evidence of the dog being repeatedly provoked by the person before they were bit. This held back the order to euthanize, but the dog was still deemed a "menace."

If you don't already have security cameras on your property, I would suggest some to be put up and pointed at the yard and include the fence. Footage may come in handy to defend you and Penni if something unfortunate were to happen.

Ridiculous that the dog was still legally labelled a "Menace."

Out of sight, but not out of mind, this area has been receiving lots of attention lately.

The Lovely Mrs. Gardener and I drove to the local metal recycling business.

We enjoyed a couple of nice fires, ridding ourselves of some smaller pieces of wood.

After culling out the rotten pieces, we organized this -

Into this -

Sent that picture to a friend advising him - If you need wood, see your doctor. If you need free lumber, see me. 🤓

We recycled these studded snow tires at the local tire seller.

No longer needed or wanted, the shelves were deconstructed.

These pavers and blocks were stacked under the lean-to. 😓😓😓

Next on my to-do-list is to remove the stump then build a 2x4 or 2x6 border on the inside ot the posts at ground level, so I can raise and level the area with some crushed rock.

Hopefully, it will keep the once in every few years flooding at bay, and make walking back there safer and more pleasurable. It's pretty soft from the moisture and moles.
