This Is What I've Been Up to Lately.

Damn! I gotta say, you guys are ambitious. If I clean my garage I count that as a major undertaking. You gents put my wee efforts to shame.

Tired Oh No GIF by One Chicago

"Clean my garage? I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."

Buck up, mister. We share your pain and your shame when it comes to cleaning the garage. :au:

Mr. Green Jeans, that is hilarious. :yellowlaugh: At first, I just thought it was a joke. But then the brain fog started to diminish. ...... Wait a minute. I know that name, but I can't remember where.

Thanks for a blast to the past, orbital. 👍👍

It was all about the GIF,, after that I just had to word it that way__.:yellowlaugh:
Your projects have been impressive

#sigh
It feels like everything takes so much freakin' longer than expected!

Been working a bit more on the new work space in the garage. Started to make some shelves. I still haven't decided exactly how I want it, but right now I am building first and deciding after because I just want to get it done. Plan is 4 shelves to the right of the window. 2 wider ones at the bottom, and 2 narrower ones at the top.

And yesterday I closed the space between the steps in the staircase to the front door. Not finished yet with closing up everything.
We have had problems with snow packing itself under there, and between freezing and melting, freezing and melting, more snow packed under there...that the whole stair case gets lifted up.

I plan to make a small "seasonal patio" on the right side of the stairs, and make a smaller, permanent one of the left. And make another protective construction along the edge of the house. With a smaller, also removable / "seasonal" piece at the edge of the house, underneath the heat pump, that will be stored away during winter.
I will remove the edge piece becase there is a build-up of ice underneath the pump during use, and the tractor clearing the road for snow may snag on the edge.

@Chauncey Gardener
An update on the gravel on the driveway.

It's slow going, but that is not my concern.

Referencing the first photo in my above post, I just ordered a bunch of peg boards. I was recommended, or at least suggested, that earlier in this thread.
I didn't want to buy anything then due to cost, but now there is a 50 % member discount (and I am a member) in a large local online tool store. Offer ends tomorrow, so I really lucked out. And my mother pays for half of it as thanks for all the work I am doing.

Order includes 5 peg boards, 18 utility hooks, 12 circle / eye hooks, 2 shelves, 4 shelf brackets (in case I want to make and use my own shelves, or a mix) and 8 small boxes. Everything from Elfa, and all-steel apart from the 8 plastic boxes.

Size will be ~180 cm (L) x 76 cm (H) - or about 6' x 2.5' - and will go from the left of the window and almost to the wall, above the barrels.

The ox is slow, but the Earth is patient.

I had no idea how long the Patio Project was going to take, and I didn't give it any forethought. I will say, however, that contrasting it to last year's endeavors, it took me a lot longer than I might have guessed it would.
The Earth is definitely more patient than I am, that's for sure...

But as I said earlier, I have left that particular project to my mother. I am considering offering to do it, but then I won't pay my share for the weed barrier and the gravel delivery. As it is, I have paid my half and done half the job - that took me 2 days. She can do the rest, this was her idea after all. And I still got plenty of things I want to get done before the snow comes in about a month.

That's the left part of the front door stairs closed off, and the first piece of the protective construction on the front side of the house. 2 of the 4 recycling bins will also recide on it. When I'm finished, we will move gravel up against the wood. Simple, decorative and - I hope - practical.

In theory, the width of the 3 decking boards that will go along the edge of the house will match exactly with the ones beside the staircase.
I just know my OCD will get triggered if they are misaligned. ^^

MOREBETTER! 👍👍
Thank you! ❤️

That grass and moss has really creeped up on the staircase in recent years. Frankly, I didn't even notice it. And trying to remove most of it now was a process.
I looked through some older pictures from when I made that staircase, and...wow, it had become really bad. Because I dug up and removed almost everything around the staircase back then (2017)

This is how it was when it was new:

...And this is why I made it in the first place:

Thanks for posting the before / after pictures for me. I did consider adding the other picture again for reference, but I figured those interested would check the above post. 🙂

This is why I really like taking pictures before, under and after a project - and specifically from the same angles. And then post the first and the last one (unless there is a work log thread).

L@@Ks like Chance has a new project. What is he working on now?
IMG_7896.JPG

It appears he's utalized his newly purchased, used plainer to clean up some old lumber.
IMG_7898.JPG

That's much easier than sanding.

IMG_7899.JPG

That L@@Ks like a 4' x 8' pice of pressure treated plywood. I bet it was expensive. Probably around $75. Damn! That's crazy!

IMG_7901.JPG

OK, it doesn't apppear to be a doorway with all those cross members.

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?

IMG_7905.JPG
Joist tape to protect the edges of the plywood. It's probably going to be exposed to the elements 24/7/365.

Tune in tomorrow to see the install. Until then, your guesses as to what its function are welcome. 🤓

This is the stairway into our basement. I built the cover during the last Century. It was L@@King like the entrance to the Batcave, and had become unsafe to walk on.

MOREBETTER!

IMG_7922.JPG

I had to demo the door in 2007, when my parents purchased us a pellet stove. It was too wide to pass through. I've been planning to replacing the door every since. 😀 This side of the house has total privacy, making it the ideal spot for illegal entry. That's the main reason for holding off on replecing it. I recently asked my Window Guy, he does doors too, to order an all steel door and frame. Our eldest son helped attach the rolled roofing and put it in place. I cut two four foot dowels to set it on, then it was easy to roll it in place without scraping the paint off the bottom of the frame. It's very heavy and solid as a rock. The green paint is indeed the same utilized on Mom's foundation. Good catch, @dc38. 👍

@PaladinNO, I can't tell from L@@King at the pictures, did the boards end up being aligned? 😀 .... :yellowlaugh: ....

I asked our son who was helping if he wanted to nail the roofing to the stair cover. He said no, but after viewing me totally non-attempting to space the nails evenly, his OCD would not allow him to stand idly by, so he took over the task. I walked away so he wouldn't be distracted or nervous from my watchful eye .... he did a good job but still hit his thumb with the hammer.

Perhaps my choice of nailing was intended as reason to get him further involved. 🤓
