So I just got my new Surefire L1 about 2 weeks ago to replace my lost in the mail (thanks USPS!) and broken Novatac 120P. It was solid and flawless until last night I noticed a rattling noise emanating from the head. It sounds like a clip or something has broken loose and shakes around the inside.

BTW, it has never been dropped, other than tossed onto a bed. The light still works, but, in my opinion, a $135 light shouldn't sound like a maraca. Is there a way I can open the head myself, or should I just send it off to surefire?

I'm bumming because this was supposed to be my dead reliable EDC that shouldn't cause me any trouble. Maybe a Ra twisty is in my future. :sigh:

Man you just have terrible luck with flashlights, both should be dead reliable and is for most people, yet you get duds for both.

Sure you don't have a sour ex who's also practices voodo?

SureFire will replace the head. As for the Ra, it's definitely a bulletproof light. I have one along with a couple of L1's. Keep in mind that they're very different lights with a different interface and a different beam profile.

I got in touch with Surefire, they want the entire light back to check it all out. I've never had to send any of my Surefires back before, here's hoping I get it back quickly. In the meantime it looks like I'm back to using my venerable E2D.

Sorry to hear about your L1. I went through a run of goofy Surefire luck too but lately they've all been perfect lights. I guess it can strike anywhere. Because of the wide availability of the L1 and no apparent supply or availability issues, my guess it that it will be a quick turn around, less than a couple of weeks. Hopefully anyhow. Good luck and don't give up on good lights just yet. :)

I have only had great customer service from Surefire..

Im sure they will take good care of this..

I might be getting bad luck on expensive lights as of late, but at least my fiance didn't even blink when I told her how much the L1 cost.

"Hey, I need to send this one back, the head rattles!"
"That's a shame, how much was that one, anyway?"
(I try to find an opening, anything to change the subject.)
Stutter out an unimaginably lame and unconvincing "Wellllll, it was kinda pricey......"
(Sterner look on her face) "So how much?"
(Mumbles under my breath, heart rate quickening) "$135."
"That's it?" I thought you were going to say $600 or something."

Damn I'm lucky. I have a $600 threshhold on flashlights with no worries from her.

LOL!!! $80 shipped is already pretty pricey for me and i have yet to break that barrier but luckily for Aussies now is that the exchange rate is alot better than what it was a few years ago!
