My 35w/50w ballast and igniter set from Kenrad arrived today! I crimped on 3 spade connectors, tucked everyting away neatly just like a pro, and what can I say - awsome! Theepdinker's bulb adapter was key to making this a super easy conversion, and with no cutting, splicing, drilling, etc. this is pretty much as close to an OEM looking job as you can get.

One thing though, there are some yellowish spots towards the top of the beam pattern. Do I have a reject D2S, or is this normal? It's NOT a problem at all, and isn't noticeable outside, just when shining on a white wall.

The expense aside, this is a piece of cake mod and a great intro into the world of HID.

The yellow spot is normal for this type of HID lamp, congats on the HID mod /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif

I've been saying it's an easy mod.
Fun too.

The form factor of the specific ballast and/or igniter make a big difference.

The yellow spots are supposed to go away over time, so you have to use the light a lot/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif. Get a float charger for it, that way you don't have to worry about over-charging the battery (even a cheap one from an auto supply house should be good enough).

It's a fun light.

Float Charger?

Talk to me. Can I get an explanation of what it is? Tell me if you know of a brand or model number? I need one for my "Theepdinker" built HID Thor.
Theepdinker, I know you are whatching. Man that thing is KILLER!

Re: Float Charger?

farmall,
Start with a stock Thor.
Remove the incan bulb.
Figure out how & where you're going to put the ballast and igniter (if two piece) inside the reflector housing.
Cut into the wire harness & tie in your ballast.
Space the bulb for proper focus(I machine spacers for that) secure the HID capsule.
Put it back together & flip the switch.

Alternately, I could sell one to you, $225.00 shipped.

Re: Float Charger?

Float charger,

Just go into an auto supply place and ask for one. Make sure it's one they say can be connected to the battery "all winter long". It should say that it "charges" and then cuts back the voltage to maintain the battery. Basically a two stage charger. Mine was 29 dollars, but it's worth it for piece of mind. Light is always topped off and the battery should last for many years.
