I recently got the Sportsman(4aa) to have as a cheapie/modder. Well after putting a KRP103 in it, i wanted to try for even more(whiter light). Boy oh boy did i succeed last night. I picked up a pack of some Rayovac krpton bulbs(I believe they are KRP102, 2.5 volts i think). Yes, I know, major overdriving, but hey it's working! Maybe i just have a VERY well built bulb in the sportsman cause i tried the other one in my wive's Arc White and it blew instantly!.

Anyway's, about the light output, its a little oblong but its nice and tight and WHITE! while it did narrow the beam dramatically, there still seems to be a sufficient amount of light spill surrounding if you are in total darkness. I would have to say the bulb increased my throw/range by at least 25%. It's like a mini handheld spotlight now! My Rayovac Sportsman for long-throw spot and my Princeton Tec 40 for good area/overall light.

I got one on Playboy's reccommemdation awhile back. I tried a spare 102 in it that I had laying around, blew instantly.

I've bought three of these Rayovac Sportsman 4AA headlamps, and they all have screw-in Krypton K4SB bulbs that don't seem as bright as other 6V lamps I have. Is the K103 a screw-in bulb? Can this lamp be modified to accept non-screw-in bulbs?

Agree with TOB9595.

I believe we are speaking of handheld flashlights when we say "Rayovac Sportsman 4AA".

I stand by the fact that mine is pretty bright but a kind of oblong beam. It is almost like the reflector is picking up each side of the figment and fighting the other side. It is brighter than my Tec40 with a similar bulb, but the TEC40 is considerably more useful in beam.

Interesting. Rayovac obviously gives the same name to several of its products. Like I said, I have three headlamps, the package says "Rayovac Sportsman 4AA Head-Lite."

It says the replacement bulb is a Rayovac Krypton K4SB-2, but as dim as this bulb is, I find it hard to believe its a krypton. Is there a brighter screw-in type bulb I can replace these with? I need long bulb life, since I use these for caving, so overdriving is not an option for me. Or better yet, can this lamp be modified so that a KPR113 or equivalent bulb ill fit? I want to stick with incandescent bulbs, not LED.

Tennessee, I don't think this is a headlamp. I have several sportsman, handheld, that I put the kpr103 in. Nice bright light.
