Thread Compatibility Question / Dilemma : MDX-22.3 / C / E

To start, please understand that I am pretty committed to the E series platform. I just purchased my first Malkoff set-ups. 1x123/1x16650 clicky paks, MDC LMH Neutral Head, and VME head w/ M61N drop in. Would have loved the 3 mode neutral M61 but it sold out while I was deliberating. I can see buying a second 1x123 pak down the road, and using these two heads w/ 123 paks for daily pocket carry.

When that time comes, I'd love to put something with more output / more throw atop my 16650 pak.

The easiest option for E Series Malkoff w/ throw is probably the E2XT. Problem is that it misses on tint and CRI preferences. In my experience, even something as low as 5000k is off putting. Also, the potted electronics are a bit of a double edge sword to me. The durability is great, but I am committed to that LED/out put for the life of the light.

That leads to my compatibility question - if I source a E Body / C Head adapter, does that open up the entire Malkoff catalog (voltage not withstanding)?

I have researched this question, and found conflicting answers. My hope is that the C/E adapter threads into heads like the Wild Cat and the M61HOT. In fact, it would be nice just to hear the C/E adapter screws into the basic MDX-22.3. In addition to giving me another host option for M series drop-ins, I'd imagine the MDX-22.3 could still be fitted with the Hi/Low ring and turn those single output M61's into 2 mode lights.

I know it would just be easier (and probably cheaper) to go with the MD2 body, but what fun is that?

I appreciate any help or clarification that you Malkoff experts can provide. Thanks!

There are a couple of E to C adapters out there. One uses an adapter and a standard C head (Oveready for one, @lightknot has had some as well). The others are the VME (on Malkoff site) and the Lumens Factory E to C adapter.

Both the LF and VME will allow you to easily run a standard Malkoff drop in on an E series body. I've had mixed luck using these with other C drop ins.

This is a de-anodized VME head on a 1x123.

Thanks, but I already ordered the VME head to run M61 drop ins on my MDC Clicky Paks.

What I am trying to sort out is compatibility of an E-Series MDC Pak + E to C adapter (either Oveready, Lightknot, Lumens Factory, etc.) + Malkoff MDX 22.3/ Wild Cat / M61HOT.
Put another way, are Malkoff's MDX heads C threads, or are the MDX heads and MD2 bodies unique to the Malkoff Universe?

Edit: and by E to C adapter, I am speaking of the small female thread by male thread bushing type fitting that is sold to go between C head and E body.

Got it… I'll have to drop back and punt for something in the larger format. Thank you for explaining.

Off topic, but I am pretty excited about something the M61N/VME + 16650 body offers versus the M361N - a much larger voltage range.

I'm not sure the situation that warrants this, but the single mode M61N going up to 9V (vs 6V) allows 2xCR123 Primary, 2x16340, or 1x16650. Does higher voltage of 2x16340 do anything for output - like on a BOSS 70 for instance? The only other light I had that could do the multi-fuel thing like this was the Muyshondt Flieger (in 18mm). And, I could easily track down 18mm e series bodies if I ever wanted to go for higher capacity.

And to my original question, if I want some knock around lights that I can throw to people without caring how they complete the catch, a couple M61N's w/ hi/low, MD3 Bodies, and a handful of 18500's would be very sweet. Could still keep that box of CR123's for an emergency. Not e series, but could still be nice to have.

I fear I might not be keeping the MDC head. The flexibility of the VME/M61 format is way too appealing to me, and my needs favor flexibility to bullet proof construction.
