Three 8mm LED 1x123 Police BB 400 Mod

So I decided to go a different way with this one. I was investigating how to put a 1 W Luxeon in it, and I discovered that 3 8mm LEDs fit perfectly in the reflector holder. It is not all that clear below, but the stock reflector is held in place by a threaded aluminum ring. The ring unscrews, the reflector and lens drop out, and the 8mm LEDs go in there perfectly.

I epoxied a BB 400 converter board into an eCan, and wired it up. Then I put the 8mm LEDs in the bezel ring with the anode leads together in the center. I wired the anode leads together, then I wired around the outside to connect the cathode leads. I had to cut the bottoms off of all of the leads to fit in the eCan, then solder the wires from the converter to the LEDs.

I have not potted the module in epoxy in case I am off on the converter board...I am sure that someone will let me know. I am not sure how much current this is drawing, but it is pretty bright. I am very happy with this mod.

That looks good, I was wondering what to do with the light that I bought.

Here is a picture of 2 Luxeons pointed at the same wall.
ARC LSH-P left, 1W w/MM+ right. The 3 LED combo is not as bright, but it gives a much larger hot spot that is more even than the HD Luxeons.

I bought my light on eBay, but you can buy them here cheaper.

The light can be purchased on ebay,(under seller ID of asainallsupplier) that is where I got mine. They are listed in different color of housings and are about 10 dollars. Only drawback is that mine took over 2 weeks to arrive from Hong Kong.
Hope this helps.

That stock lamp assembly looks a lot like the one from the PM6. How does it compare in size?

Hey, very nice work.
Looks really professional. Along with those pics!!!

What are you using to take those pics? And what are you lighting them with? Look great.

What do you think of the fit and finish, and quality of that light? I have though about modding one also.

Thanks!!

I have a Canon S400 Digital Elph camera. I have had it for about 6 months. I am very happy with it.

In my experience the key to taking good pictures of flashlights is the background more than the lighting. I use a light blue piece of posterboard for a background, and it makes a BIG difference. The lighting is just standard florescent office lighting.

The light is very good quality for the money. Mine has a very even finish and has not scratched rolling around in my bag. I don't think that the light is waterproof, which is too bad, and there is no good way that I have found to attach a lanyard, but other than that I am very happy with it. Now if they could just refrain from printing "Police" on the bezel...

Bigger and brighter, I think. These were cheap, and have a whiter color than any 5mm LEDs that I have seen. Not that I have seen all that many...
