Some home I've ended up with a decent amount of P60 hosts and that's great... except they don't throw all that well. The best thrower is an xpe drop in from custom lights but the tint and cri could stand to improve- not to mention the output. I figure there are plenty of xpg sized reflectors out there but do any of the modern leds offer markedly better throw? Obviously looking at the3535 sizes such as xpg2, nichia 219, sst-20 or something else? Maybe xpl hi? I'm not terribly picky but tend to stay in the neutral range and like to see at least 80cri, which should be quite reasonable.

Beam throw is determined by physics / optics.

In simple terms, you want ...

• brighter emitter
AND
• smaller emitter

PLUS

• larger / deeper reflector
OR
• focused optic

P60 is not really optimized for the latter two. The bezel is pretty small and relatively shallow, limiting reflector size. Optics can be used, but it is tricky to get the focus just right.

So, it is easiest to look for the smallest brightest emitters. There have been some excellent choices, and I am not up to date on all of the latest, as extreme throw is not really a particular interest of mine.

The Oslon Black Flat is one I have used, but I believe it has been surpassed by the OSRAM W1 and W2 ... maybe others ?

Check out Malkoff M61T. "This design utilizes a tightly focused TIR optic. The Optic offers a tight beam for maximum throw. The Lux at 1 meter is 12,000. It is an outstanding medium to long range spotter. It will easily illuminate objects at 450+ feet and will blind opponents within a 150 foot radius. The LED is a Cree XP-L HI."

Unfortunately, they're only offering it in CW, not NW.

The throwiest emitter at the moment is the Osram Flat White. It beats out the XP-E2 by a good margin and is probably the best you can do with the P60's limited reflector. Offhand I don't know of anyone selling pre-made dropins with it but it would be a simple mod.
