Probably like most here I was thrilled to see the performance of this light when Selfbuilt tested it. Seemed to be on target to set a new standard for an AA powered light. But then the problems started cropping up and I had to put the brakes on. Wondering if Thrunite has resolved the issues yet and what the odds would be of getting a properly functioning one if ordered from Amazon.

Anyone tried one recently and had good luck?

I'm curious about this as well. I've been eyeing this light heavily the past few days and wondering how the newer lights are faring.

I have also been curious about this... Based on its price, availability through Amazon, and NW offering, it might be a good model to recommend to friends.

The Zebralight SC5 seems to set the new standard for 1xAA output, at 500 lumens in the neutral white version. User reports seem to suggest that it's really achieving that, not just marketing. I'm definitely going to buy one when they get in stock at the usual places.

I have several Zebra's and love them all... but the price alone puts them in a slightly different category.

This thing puts out insane light on a 14500, I'm impressed for size.
What were the problems of show stoppers?

All that's said is problems cropped up, but what exactly?

I recall a lot of early adopters with lights that were flickery and/or would not come on... some switch problems as well I believe? I also remember hearing that TN was taking care of defective lights, but it still scared off a lot of CPF readers.

For me it's too big for a AA/14500 light... but might be great for some people I know, who may even prefer to run it with 2xAA.

Hmm, that might do it.
Though in my limited readings, I haven't seen a lot of that here unless I missed threads which is likely.
Or that CPF ownership is low and no one's talking?

I'm not keen on appearance but it's on my list to check out.

Edit, good grief, big old thread link just above my post about issues lol.

My guess is the issues are not fixed. I returned the light and got a newer one, and the problems persisted. It works fine on all modes except turbo. It puts out an insane amount of light for a 2xAA, but within a minute it just turns off, no step down at all. Very frustrating. It's promising, but there's probably a good reason nobody else has done it yet.

I really liked a lot about this light.

I have seen what their rep said about in the "other" forum months ago, and he said that they were going to Stop Production and redesign.

My guess is, that when they do fix it, it will also look different on the outside, just so people will know.... JMO.

Thanks,
-Chuck

I hope so. I'd be willing to give it another try. Only after it has been out for a while ;-)

Good to know. I also think it's pretty ugly in its current revision. I was mostly interested in it from a 2xAA standpoint but thought the ability to interchange with 1xAA was cool. I believe I've moved on from this one for now...

I just got one in the mail today. The only thing it would do is blink continuously at a very low level. I tried several different freshly charged eneloops to no avail. I am sending it back tomorrow.

I used to have three of these. Returned one after having problems with it either not coming on, or not coming on in turbo when using a standard AA NIMH. I keep a 3.6v lithium ion cell in one of them and it works fine. I took the AA extender from that one and attached it to my other Neutron and I use it as a 3AA (NIMH) light. Both work fine this way, but I would not buy another. If I put a standard single AA in either of mine, they power on, but will not go to turbo mode. I was looking into the Zebra SC5 that was mentioned in this thread, but I prefer a larger light. The size of the Neutron is perfect for me. It is a shame Thrunite did not make it as solid as the Archer that I own.
