I want to order the New Tiablo flashlight but cannot decide whether to get the smooth or OP reflector. I do not understand lux readings actually. I just know that on smooth reflector, the A9 has a 16580 lux at high and a 9040 lux at high on an OP reflector. Which reflector will be give better light at 200 meters? If I go for a smooth reflector, what about rings and holes on the light? Thanks.

For throw, definitely smooth
For closer range work, get the OP

Personally I'd get the smooth, since the light was designed to be a thrower, might as well use the throwing capability to the fullest.

Get the smooth. There aren't many rings in the beam, and no holes that I can see. If you buy an OP variety you'll always wonder just how much more powerful it would have been when it comes to throw. Also, the hotspot from the A9 is ever so slightly fuzzier when compared to the A8 beam.

Yep, the rings are minimal and really don't effect practical usage. Even more so at 200m.
Check out the beamshots in the review below and decide if the rings bother you:

Btw, I believe the new A9 will give more than 16580 lux (assuming this is at 1m) since the original A8 already outputs 17560 lux at 1m from my tests.

Where are you going to buy your A9S Q5? I see that Battery Junction is out of them..

I just got a Tiablo A9 from Pacific Tactical, and I got both reflectors. For me, the OP refector makes the light more practical. If I want to spot something at 200 yards, I can always put it back on, or just whip out my MRV!:naughty: I was already spending $120.00+ dollars so an extra $20.00 was not going to kill me!

The extra $20 won't kill you, but the swopping of reflectors will! 😛 Depends on the individual's needs anyway. I'm sure you're enjoying yr light anyway mike!

Just got mine with both. I like the OP best. The smooth seems to have a very slightly darker spot in the middle of the hotspot. The OP seems to give up very little in throw and has great spill.

FWIW, I like the smooth better on my M1.

and by the way.... HOLY CRAP this thing is cool! :twothumbs

It has more throw AND more spill than my Streamlite TL-3 three cell incan. I think incan is finally dead for me in anything other than a monster light.
