is there much of a difference in throw between the A9 and A8?

If they both have the same pill in them(emitter), they will be the same. It's just the circuitry that is different. They are each optimized for different battery set-ups. Other than that, they are mechanically the same.

Yes, there is a little difference, the A9 with Cr123 has a little bit more throw than the A8 with Cr123 or 18650.

I got the A9 for more throw. I am using a 18650 cell not 2 CR123s.
