how do you carry your tl in your vehicle? i'm trying to figure out how to carry it in my tundra without it rolling all over the place. i don't really want to drill holes in my truck or use a charger cause it's too stiff.

i'm gonna see if i can locate a clip on nylon holder and rig it somewhere to stay put. i was thinking SOE but where can i get SOE GEAR pouches other than direct from SOE?

comments/suggestions welcome.

tkl,
I would think the clips made for the Maglight should fit. Mount them on a board, put some rubber backing of some type (the rubber shelf paper they sell in rolls should do) on the back, & put it under the seat. Should stay put. TX

good idea. i was just thinking about the gun show this weekend. there is usually a vendor or two selling "ops" gear. i'm going to take the tl with me and see what i can come up with.

i'm thinking i can find a pouch, then a velcro strap of some sort, run it through the belt loop on the strap then around the ashtray and close it. that way i don't have to drill any holes and it's easy to get to. i just realized it'll probably open the ash tray after awhile.

i used to have some of those clips for the maglight. never used them, think i have them to my dad or threw them away.

IIRC they are cheap.

If you cut the board so it's about 6" longer on each end, you should be able to put a heal on each end & pop the light out very easily. I just got the Mag D light ring holder & the TL fits great. May be able to find place to hang it from that. TX

i'll check out the ring holder too, thanks.

I have used a very similar idea as txwest but I have used different materials.
I got a piece of Alumminum and mounted the bracket(in this case it was for a fire extinguisher) and stuck some pieces of heavy duty plastic velcro to the bottom. I can't remember the trade name for the velcro fixings but it is quite different to the usual type in that one part is made of a rigid plastic and the other part is normal soft nylon.

The rigid velcro is very tough and adheres well to clean surfaces. Its major advantage is that it sticks to a normal car carpet incredibly securely.
In my car the fire extinguisher which weighs over 2lb doesn't move and can safely be relied on to stay put without other fixings being needed. Txwests idea of using Maglite brackets mounted to this would work really well.

Doug,
I've seen that "velcro" stuff you're talking about. It's like hundreds of plastic stems with small balls on the end. The balls go into the carpet fiber & sticks pretty well. Don't know where you'ld get it though. I use the rubber shelf liner to hold my sharpening stones on the counter when sharpening a knife. Does great there, but yours would work better in the car. If you did a quick stop, the light would probably stay put. TX

george, thanks! where did you get yours? if the velcro tx and doug are talking about doesn't work for me i'll give that a try.

doug, where did you find yours? figure i'll try home depot/lowe's unless you have a better idea.

Hey txwest,
You have obviously come across the rigid 'velcro' I'm talking about! I can only speak from my own experiences but my fire extinguisher has lived at the bottom of my feet in the footwell for over four years and has never come close to moving (except of course when I'm cleaning the car!)I know from personal experience that it will do the job providing that the base plate is sufficiently lage enough to provide stability to the weight being used.

I have actually managed to find the product I was telling you about it's made by Sellotape and called Heavy Duty Hook and Loop pads!
They have a web site www.sellotape.com
Hope this is of some use? Oh and BTW have a Happy Christmas!

Radio Shack sells the stuff as their heavy duty "Superlock" strips (as opposed to their regular hook-and-loop or "velcro" type strips).

Unlike Velcro where the two pieces are constructed differently, both "halves" of Superlock are the same. When used as originally intended, you engage it by forcing any two pieces of it together so the tiny balls on one piece pop behind the ones on the other piece.

When used as discussed here, it's going to stick better to some kinds of carpet than others... the "fuzzier" ones seem to allow it to be "worked in" better.

txwest has been gracious enough to pick me up some from a vendor he is already ordering from. so i'll have some soon.
