TL-2 with a cree

The concept seemed simple enough. It was rather hard to get the components all open, unfortunately the wires ripped when i got it open so I had to soder new wire, though im still learning. I had a cree on a base and managed to get wires from it to the circuit board fairly crudely.

Though when i put it back together it doesnt work all the time, seems like something isnt sitting right. Maybe I have a wire brushing up against something? Also I noticed it was getting fairly warm. I dont know what the TL-2 was putting into the Luxeon 1 watt but I didnt expect it to get very warm...

So right now I basically messed up a good light untill i can figure out why it only works sometimes. It is noticably brighter than the luxeon 1. There are some beam artifacts but that may be that it just isnt sitting correctly?

If I did mess something Up i may just have to make it a direct drive light. How does a cree work on 2x 123?
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I counldnt find any TL-2 mods done here.

Direct drive with 2x123 and it will burn out. the cree is rated for around 3.4 volts ( I don't have the specs in front of me) so at the very least you will need to use a resistor.

Guess i better get my voltmeter and see what power the chip was giving the old luxeon LED.
