No don`t worry, it`s not what you think!

Following a request to see the Arc-LS compared to a few other known torches, I set to work tonight with the camera, ALS, Tektite Expeditions and all the other torches that fell off the shelf when I reached up to grab the Expedition 300.

And seeing as though everyone`s favourite reviewer and Torch Tester probably has his head buried in the ProMetric Beam Profile Analyser`s installation instruction manual by now, someone`s got to keep our daily quota of toliet jokes coming, and I figured it might as well be me!

But more seriously, "the Can" is just accross the landing outside my door not 20 feet behind me right now, and one of the few things in this house outside this room that my camera can see (it`s tethered to the PC/video system on 3m of cable) I thought it`d make a great longer range test target- after all, we all know how big they are, right? So that`s what I used.

The following pictures were taken with the same camera settings, and the lights aimed at the wall above the tank, which is exactly 20ft away from them. First, a sizing guide-

and now the LED lights.

As the UBB software probably won`t let me have many more photos in this message, I`ll post the shots I did with incandescents below.

As far as I know, the batteries used are fairly good although the Expedition 1900 above looks a bit dim, I`ll check on that one once I get my test equipment back up and running. Looks like a dead fuse in an extension block somewhere under there. But which one, there are so many....

Light meter readings to follow tomorrow.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting these pictures. They really help clarify what the ARC LS can do.

I hope Arc gives a free ARC LS for all your trouble. I'm sure your pictures will help them sell even more ARC LS flashlights.

Seeing what the white LS can do, I'm definitely buying an ARC LS as soon as they come out.

thanks,

sylvestor

You figured wrong, Chris M; d'you mind if I hereby name your series of beam photos 'The Romeo Files'? Why? 'Romeo and Toliet,' of course. Check your speling!

Only kidding. Keep up the good work.

Pierce.

All this makes me want to take a crap! No, what I mean is, me want to do a beam comparison! No I mean see the toilet better! Oh, well.

Check your speling!

Aaaahhhhh.....my spelling of "toliet". Actually I did it like that deliberately as a tribute to the great Stingmon who, himself, often spells it that way on purpose. Dunno why, maybe it cam from a simple typo one day and sort of stuck?

THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU Chris! From the looks of things, The Arc LS 2AA lithium beat out the Trek 1900 19 LED light!!!! Albeit it will not out run it, but for it's size and cost, it is WELL worth the money.

In my book, now, i believe the Arc LS is the brightest LED flashlight that i have seen.

Mr. Gransee, GOOD JOB, i CANNOT WAIT for its release!

On purpos4e?
Only on a couple of smaller websites (like the "Toliet!!! Toliet!!!" page) did I really do that intentionally.

Then I found this T-shirt on the internet:

ttot1.jpg

And everything changed... now I don't even notice the typo when I do it... usually when typing very fast and some letters get rtansposed. (like what just happened to the "r" and the "t").

If you ever get the chance, find a Commodore 64 that has S.A.M. running on it.
Type in "flush the toliet bowl." and see how it pronounces it.

Then type in words like "douche", "shower", and "towel" and see how it mangles *those* words.

The Arc LS 2AA lithium

Actually I used regular Alkalines in that one. Lithiums would be even brighter, but alas I only have one left right now and its current destiny is to be burned up in a CMG Infinity in the name of science.

Thanks for that list Craig- very, er, enlightening!

If you ever get the chance, find a Commodore 64 that has S.A.M. running on it.

I`ve not got one of them, but I do have an Amiga-500 that still works, and it has an amusing speech synthesis program on there. I`ll find it later and have some fun.....

...now if you`ll all excuse me, I`m off to recalibrate my test target

Fellow forumite 2d_Edge produced this great Thumnail collage of my pictures above, which provides a better, more at-a-glance comparison of the different lights. As you can see, the Arc-LS with 2AA Alkalines is by far the brightest LED light in my current inventory.

This flyer from the city came in the mail.

I tried the speech board things on two different computers, and both pronounced it differently.
One says "toh LYE et" while the other says "toh LEET".

Speak and ye shall....be confused! I had great fun earlier on this evening getting the old Amiga-500 working again, and to my delight it`s old Speech synthesiser still worked! Woweee- 13 year old technology that can do something 6-year old stuff (this thing) can`t!

Here`s what I got....

Type in "flush the toliet bowl." and see how it pronounces it.
Then type in words like "douche", "shower", and "towel" and see how it mangles *those* words.

Flush the Toliet Bowl (149k)

Douche (47k)

Shower (41k)

Towel (44k)

Here`s how it gets a hold of the two spellings of "Toilet"...

toilet (44k)

toliet (55k)

And finally a messaghe to everyone here at CPF from my lonely neglected old Amiga....

Hello CPF!** (222k)
**I havn`t been successful in playing this file here after re-downloading it- it just won`t do it, you may have more luck? If not I`ll see what I can do to alter things.

Sorry if these Wave files are a little big, but it`s the quickest way. I did have a program to convert these to the smaller MP3 once (not any more but it could be re-installed) but in my opinion, on slower computers like mine, MP3s are not worth the fuss as the advantages you gain in quicker download are lost in the delays in Media Player decompressing the file to play it.

Enjoy!

BTW, Amiga does requests if anyone`s interested! He has trouble pronouncing stuff, but he is about 13 years old, which in computer years is about 367!

Er, no sorry I don`t, not yet. But if anyone out there in USA-land who lives near a Wallyworld that actually does have one, and you have a Paypal account too, I`d be interested to hear from you. Going by the pictures it looks like a good`un- I better get me one before it`s too late.

Yours is funny.
It sounds like he's saying "Flush the tull-lite bull.
grin.gif

Almost rhymes with "woolite", that laundry soap you use to do clothes in the sink.
blush.gif

Your Amiga's pronounciation of the other words is not far from the way my C-64 says them. You have to "fix" the spelling to get words to come out sounding right.

Douche becomes 'doosh'.
Shower becomes 'shaouer'.
Towel becomes 'taouul'.
Bicycle becomes 'bie sickle'
Disposable becomes 'dispoasable'

Sentences spelled out like "he /'d the tires on my bie sickle with a dispoasable paper taouul & a sharpened keee." would be a common sight with the SAM speech program. And when spelled that way, the darned thing says them correctly.

On the other hand, a sentence like "Johnny flushes broken light bulbs and drinking glasses down the toilet." would come out right without having to change any of the spellings.

...TOYLIGHT!

When 2 things we can't live without come together! (i.e. The crapper, and flashlights)

Hmmm... we've gotten Toylight and Toyleight (?). Let's see if there are any more good names...

NighToilet
Toilite
e-z-weewee
Johnny Light / Johnny Lite
Nev-R-Miss
The Nightseat / Niteseat
Nighttime Go-Lite
The Flushlight
Bowl Tamer
The Tinkle Lite

hmmm... any marketers out there?
