Hi guys,

I'm looking for a torch for urbex, it should has these specs:
  • flood beam
  • at least 500 ansi lumens output
  • compact and waterproof body (IPX8)
  • XM-L T5 led or equivalent (i need a neutral white emitter)
  • price with batteries and charger under 150 $
I've seen the Eagletac T20c2 mkII, I think this is a great torch but it seems to me that is a thrower and not a flood light, do you know if with the diffuser mounted the beam becomes wider?

Thank you!!!

Sandro

T20C2 MkII has an optional diffuser that converts it into an excellent floodlight. It is, however, not available with neutral white XM-L drop-in.

Zebralight SC600w will suit your needs better. It's small; it's powerful; it's floody; and it has neutral white tint. The main drawbacks that kept me from getting one for myself are the fact that it's incompatible with primaries and has an electronic switch that siphons power from the batteries even when it's not activated, but that won't pose much of a problem for you.

If you wish to have a light that can utilize primaries as well as rechargeables, ThruNite TN12 with neutral white emitter will be a good option.

Both lights exceed 600 lumens and only have little more than 5,000 lux, meaning that you get an absolutely MASSIVE beam angle.

PM me if you have more questions, but my own experiences like that tell me to emphasize the following:

*Throwier or all-round beam with diffuser
*Runtime! And more runtime. And spare cells
*Neutral-white or high-CRI.
*Not picky about when you charge it
*Durable
*Low-low modes are nice

Those are just about in the order I want them in, usually. Most of the time you'd only want 500 lumens to signal for help or to lightpaint. Get some cheap slave flashes for the latter 😉

I highly suggest the 4sevens Tactical series for uses like this. Anything much less throwy than those will have trouble punching through dust or fog, both of which are common in the places I go.

I agree with you but still I think that a 100 meters throw is enough 🙂 anyway which light do you advise?

Thank you all 🙂

Really, a solarforce L2 with a Nailbender XM-L dropin (Low/Medium/High neutral white, a 5A, 4B, or 3C tint, with mode memory and about 2A current on high), smooth reflector, with a diffuser, two AW 3000 mAh 18650 cells, and a charger. That should give you enough power and runtime to do lots of things.

You can't go wrong with most of the decent $40-$80 range, especially if you'll toss in another $50 on batteries. I hear good things about EagleTac but do not own any.
