I'd vote for Zinc-chloride. Those only have a fraction of the capacity of Alkalines, however they are virtually leakproof (they dry out before they leak), and they also tend to hold their charge better than Alkalines do, i.e. they age slower. That's why you still usually find them packaged with remote controls. This explains why they haven't leaked yet, and why they still give power. ;-)

Off topic - there is absolutely nothing wrong with Aldi, I got affordable grocery in college from them and they have basic, good quality foods. They are not overpriced like other chains. And they are in rich areas too. With middle class income what it is these days they are affordable.

I love Aldi, they are extracting the Michael out of all the chains in the UK,back to lights they sell quite a few on a regular basis, not long ago twin pack of AAA key chain lights for £2.99 and a three year guarantee.

They are pretty good, I do about half of my shopping there and get various other staples elsewhere. Obviously you can't get Mtn Dew and Doritos there, but for the basics it works. Smaller store, easier to shop, less impulse items. Good stuff.

No, I think that we spend so much on flashlights, batteries and chargers that we HAVE to shop at ALDI.

Publix BOGOs rule.

My Aldi in the USA doesnt sell rechargable batteries, maybe its a UK thing. They usually have duracells here and sometimes their own brand of batteries, but you have to look for them as they are in some of the more hidden spots in the store. I also think they only have AA batteries here.

At least over here in Austria, they only have rechargeble batteries as sales items which they get in a few times a year, then sell them off for one or two weeks at an incredibly low price, and then they are replaced by other sales items. They send out flyers every week announcing their upcoming sale items. They do have Alkalines of their house brand (ActiveEnergy) for sale at all times, but only in the popular sizes (last time I checked, I think it was AA, AAA, C and 9V's) and at least in part only in bigger packages (I think it was 8-packs for both AA and AAA and 2-packs for 9V). However, I may confuse Aldi and Lidl there.
