Sold/Expired Triple Seoul P7 / Cree MC-E Kit for Mag D

Do you know how the p7 reflectors look like with sst/r-50's? I kind of want to upgrade my triple p7 to sst/r-50's but also don't want to have to get new reflectors.....unless i haveeee to. I wonder what the dia difference impact will be.

NoooO! I waited too long, should have bought first and done homework later. Is there another source for the heatsinks, or were you making them?

Oh so I thought this was bad news but really it's great news! I thought you had got tired of milling the things. Back to being really excited about building this. =D

Would running three SST 90's be too much current to manage in something this size? They can run at 9A, so does that mean three of them would be over 20A?

Depends if you intend to run them in series or parallel - series would mean (and this assumes direct drive - you'd need more voltage if you wanted regulation) you needed three times the voltage that the LED requires, and then you would be running 9A through each LED. Basically, it would be the same as having a battery for each LED. You run the LEDs in series, and you run the batteries in series.

If you were going to have the LEDs in parallel, you only need to supply the voltage that one LED requires, but you would need to supply three times the current to power them - 27A in other words.

Most people go the high voltage, low current route (not that 9A is low current, by any stretch of the imagination!), rather than low voltage high current. You would need very chunky wires for 27A, and battery life on one cell would be miserable. Again, you could of course have multiple cells, in parallel this time rather than series - that would increase the run time, but tends to make for a bulkier package.

ps Yitao - still up for a full triple XM-L set once they become available. 😀

yes 3 sst90 at full power would be 27 amps, or about 90w, no matter how you wire them you will still end up with the same watage, as for current managment, it is easier to deal with 9a9v than with 3v27a.
However heat managmet will deffinatly be a problem in something of the size of maglite head, meltdown in 2 min or so, lol. even 1 sst90 gets hot fast in mag head, imagine 3.

it could be awesome "holly sh...t" light for short runs, a min or so.

tentatively in for 2 XM-L kits once they are released(without LEDs unless youre a sly dog and got some 3A/3B tint T6's), also if a new version of the buck drivers will be made(other then just tweaking current to 3A), a 25v (well, anything over 22v) would be sweet, so a 12xAA to 3D or 4D adaptors can be used with 1.8v lithium primary AA cells, or Ni-MH cells.

so is the new heatsink milled for just one XM-L, or three, like the previous?
