I'm not happy with the performance of my Turtlelight 1 and was wondering if I could replace the led with an incandesant bulb and if so what would be my best choice.Any help is appreciated.

Sure can! The Turtlelite is just a Dorcy BOSS in disguise, so any 6V PR-Based bulb should work. I'm not a big bulb expert though so I'll let some others make some more specific recomendations.

I have a Dorcy Boss which I have modified with a home-made 3LED bulb. It's the most used light in the house. Nicely balanced. Good, consistent, broad beam. Batteries last for months and months. You can find a number of LED replacement bulbs through the net that should do the same thing.

Mrd 74,

Since I use rechargeable AA's, I overdrive bulbs made for 3-alkaline cells for great brightness.

Currently, my favorite bulbs for this are the XPR3 Xenon lamps originally made for the Hubbellite 3003-C. Found 'em on clearance at Lowe's, 2 for 85 cents!

I'm using this in 4AA light from Big Lots which I believe is a close clone of the Turtlelight-I. It has the smooth reflector, and a very piercing narrow beam with the XPR3 Xenon lamp, and has nearly become my favorite inexpensive light for general use. The beam is nearly PERFECT with WriteWrite film on the lens.

Most 3-cell Krypton bulbs seem to stand up well to overdriving with 4AA's. Xenon's (if you can find 'em) tend to be a little more sensitive to overdriving, so I guess I've been lucky so far.

Good luck - John

I have to ask: what is it you don't like about your Turtlelite? Beam too narrow? Not bright enough? It is my most-used flashlight around the house.

You hit the nail on the head, narrow beam and not bright enough.I have other LED lights that I like better so thought I'd try to improve the Turtlelites performance.
