Hello, fellow flashlight addicts...

I just received my new CMG Infinity LED light today. It's my first LED light and so far, I'm pretty impressed...

I had a couple of questions...I did read the old CMG Infinity threads first. The one I got is laser-etched "U.S. GOVERNMENT" between the knurled grip parts. In fact, that's one reason I got this one -- to be different.

Does anyone know anything about these? (This specific application, I mean. Were they prototypes for some branch of the armed forces?)

Some folks have commented on the low output of the LED. Mine is white with a sort of blue cast to it. I figure if this was marketed toward the military, the lower output would be better for several reasons.
1) Less loss of night adaptation while still able to differentiate colors.
2) Battery lasts longer.
3) The bad guys can't see you as easily as if you're using a white Photon...

I think I want to get one in red now. They look like they would be great for map reading.

Any ideas on the Government runs of these? How long ago were they? Has anyone else heard about it? I did a search on here and didn't see any other threads about it...

Thanks for any info!

That's probably the one I heard about with the hidden compartment for the cyanide capsule.

So does no one really have a clue about these or has the government sworn the people to secrecy that do?

Really, do they have the same specs as the other CMG Infinity LED lights? Is the bluish-white LED typical? I've read other accounts where people got the bluish-white light from one place and one with a green-white light at another...

Still wondering why no one has any info on these...it came in a rather plain bag with a Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) number on it of 0919-04/00 I'm guessing the "/00" means it was made in 2000?

Every one I've tested had a distinctly bluish light to it, even at the lower than usual LED drive current. The LEDs in these things would probably have a more violetish tint if they were severely overdriven, like the LEDs in the Pelican L1 and the Scepter do.

I do not know about the CMG unit you saw but I can say that is normal for manufacturers to produce custom units for customer willing to buy enough of them. Custom usally means a special color or just a diffrent laser inscription. Usally the cost of making any other changes are too much for most customers. So, I would be suprised if the LED or circuit was anything other than stock. What might seem as a difference in the LED or circuit may just be normal variations in LED tint and brightness from batch to batch.

We have had military branches contact us for custom units. Usally, to keep the costs down, they just go with a different laser inscription or a different color of anodize.

..or maybe they were intended as government standard-issue kobutons for the 'little-people' brigade...
