UK4AA, Pelican Stealthlite, or SL4AA ProPolymer

I have a bunch of AA Ni-MH batteries (2250 mAh) sitting around so figured I needed another light to use them in. I'm looking at the UK 4AA, Pelican Stealthlite, SL 4AA ProPolymer. Any feedback?

The Streamlight has a true clickie if this helps. Don't know whether the other ones do.

The beam of the SL is a poor mans Scorpion. Nice. Long run time too.

UK 4AA AS2 has a switch up where the thumb or first digit thinks it ought to be. Mine makes an oval shaped beam that's not TOO tight. It isn't SF smooth, showing some faint rings, but altogether not a bad light at all. Beam is about 2 foot across at about 10 feet.

Stealthlite is a thrower. Beam is a tight spot maybe 6 inches at about 10 feet. It has some spill maybe almost 3 feet at 10, and a large corona. I actually run my Stealth with NimH and a 3C LM from a Saberlite. In this particular case, it has a much brighter spill of almost 2 feet with a bright spot even so. It has a big corona with rings around the outside. It is considerably brighter than the original LM with these batteries, perhaps not so much different with fresh alkalines.

I have a SL PP 4AA 7LED, but have no idea about the beam characteristics of the Xenon module.

I would recommend the UK. It has an excellent form factor, and is smaller at least in head diameter than the Stealth, smaller than the whole SL.

Unfortunately I don't have personal experience with all 3 lights. I do own a UK4AA, and for what its worth, it's been my favorite incandescent task light since.

PlayboyJoeSchmoe has already explained much in detail. The switch is easy to use, being in the appropriate place, and the light itself is actually quite comfortable. The stacked battery design and small bezel make the light very pocket-friendly. The output is very decent, especially for $16.

I originally bought mine after a member recommended it to me to replace my Surge as a robust, high intensity light for finding cairns/trail blazes in harsh weather. I've since given them to my father and uncle as christmas presents, and sent my cousin and close friend over to Iraq with them. Although not flashaholics, they were impressed and have been quite happy with them.

I don't know if there are any advantages to running an LED module (like the SL PP 4AA 7LED) with Ni-Mh, but if you're going incandescent, I can give the UK 4AA a healthy thumbs-up.

Oh, I don't know about the other 2, but the UK is supposed to be water resistant to 10', and has the nifty gas vent in the back.

good luck!

Eric911,

I have StealthLite that I tried with NiMh but IMO the beam color goes from a nice creamy white with fresh alkalines to a more or less yellow with NiMh. Remember that the voltage drops from 6V to 4.8V.

JanCPF has a point. It explains why my Stealthlite has a 3C module in it with NimH. If I were to stay alkaline it would have the 4cell module.

I offer this evidence of the NimH voltage drop. Three cells measuring 1.24V unloaded weren't driving my SL TT 3AA very bright. Three fresh Rayovac alkalines make it what it should be!

I run my UK with alkaline. I may try NimH just to see, but I would expect it to be less bright by a fair margin. edit: I just happened to have a light with 4 NimH in it right here by my 'puter. So I tried it. Not as less bright as I figured, but certainly noticeable.

If you have to run NimH, either get the Stealth and a Superpelilite module, or get a TEC 40 and run a 3Cell bulb. You might have to put a strip of aluminum foil down in the TEC 40 first, although supposedly Pelican changed the light to springs down there.

Last thought: I cut a piece of Writeright and put it on the lense of my Stealthlite. It has given it a Surefire type beam. MUCH better!!!

Not sure if you are looking at the incandescent or the 7LED SL4AA.

I have the 7LED SL4AA and it is a very versatile light that seems to run for a very long time on Alkalines. I only had 1850mAh NimH cells when I tried it, and it certainly gave me a good 5 hours reasonable light before dimming down and going on for a good while - in the end, a reverse voltage cell screwed the test.

Though I was initially a little disappointed with the SL4AA because I wanted the option of using 4 AA Lithiums for a standby disaster light and Lithiums are not supported, I have been exceptionally pleased with both NimH and Alkaline performance - big wide (though not awfully deep) flood with great runtime. Simply built and strong.

No experience with the Pelican to compare...

Re: UK4AA, Pelican Stealthlite, or SL4AA ProPolyme

Thanks for all the input. I came across a Pelican Stealthlite at a local shop today and picked it up. It runs great on the alkaline, but did dim to yellow with the NimH. I think I'll leave the alkalines in it and toss it in the car as a spare (light, that is).

Re: UK4AA, Pelican Stealthlite, or SL4AA ProPolyme

No! Do see if you can locate a Super Pelilite 3C bulb module for use with the NimHs!

That is if you like the light enough not to just toss it in the glovebox....

Playboy, how has the lamp life been with your 3C lamp setup? I think I first talked to you about this mod a few months ago, and I'm on my second lamp. It seemed a little short, but it could have been a bad lamp, or I just put in NiMH's that were fresh off the charger, I can't remember now. But given the costs of the lamp assemblies, if I go through them too fast, then it sort of defeats the purpose of using rechargables to save money.

This looks pretty interesting. Altho i dont own any, Underwater Kinetics seem to have a good reputation.
Of course, being made of plastic, i wouldnt expect the LED to be driven too hard.

Alan, I have only killed one propritary light module so far. I killed a 2AAA PT module with 3AAA... duh!

The Stealthlite has shown no ill effects so far...

And I did mention writeright didn't I? It makes the Stealthlite WAY better for my wants/needs!
