Unicorns and Grail lights, what's yours?

I can tell you what isn't a "Unicorn and Grail" flashlight, for me

Anything that requires a "guide", as attached below, because that is nothing but a play toy, nothing more

I have to agree though. I use an Anduril light every single day (Emisar D4k with 2700k dedomed emitters) as my bedroom lamp on Candle Mode, and it is UNBEATABLE in that use case, BUT I would certainly not take that light somewhere where I needed durability and reliability.

I haven't had an Emisar/Noctigon die on me yet, but I don't subject them to the same torture I do with my Malkoffs, HDS or Oklumas.

Back in the day... ten years ago Magnetic rotories were all the rage.
I got a Niteye MSC20. It has a XML led in it but it is still a great light.

Magnetic rotary switches are very handy. Not having to scroll through levels of brightness, but just turn the ring. I have several of this type.

For me, a Grail light Must Have High CRI LED(s).

A few years ago this Titanium Magnetic Rotary with sw45k was my grail:

It has been superseded by this MAO TS10 w sw45 LEDs:

Nice Reylight! I've never seen a triple Lan.

My grail is is the polished to Lan Apple, decked out with 4 ice blue trits. Followed close by Reylight black oil to mini pineapple! After being hear for a long time, I really love the flexibility of Reylights UI. And its simplicity.
I ended up selling all my andriil UI lights it was too much and always seemed to not do what I wanted in the order I wanted!

I love that with Reylight, I can set it for moonlight first and then step up as needed. Very intuitive. Also still use my jet beam rrt01!

Yes it is. Plus the style and build quality is fantastic. I am up to 5 Reylight now. Just bought blue Al Lan apple for $36 over Black Friday sale.
I still use my modded Nuwaii Q3 in the picture!

My perfect flashlight has a momentary push-button tail switch and a continuously variable magnetic ring. Sunwayman, Jetbeam, Niteye, Nitecore, and I think Niwalker have all released flashlights with these features. And I wonder: why does no other brand offer these features today? And why don't today's hobbyists demand these features? Do the flashaholics of the 2020s not know that these flashlights existed? I don't understand anything...

I'm pretty sure a sue happy company has a patent on rotary rings (Surefire). Also, from my understanding, they aren't very efficient, which partially defeats their purpose.

It's a shame if that's the case. Considering they don't even make lights with rotary rings anymore. Do their patents ever run out?

My unicorn light doesn't exist, and I don't think it ever will due to high cost / low demand.

I keep coming back to my Fenix TK76. I want to see it revised, with new hCRI emitters as well as 365 Nm UV and RGB (selectable Red / Green / Blue output). And having it be even bigger, to take 4x 21700 instead of 4x 18650 cells (and still supporting battery extenders). To hell with weight, I want proper cooling and a runtime I don't have to think about.

$500? Done!

I have a TK75 2018 and a TK76, both having 2 "runtime kits" for a total 12x 18650 cells. The runtime is great, but I want more features and better emitters.

Amen to that. I have a few Emisar lights now (DT8K, DW4, Noctigon K9.3, D4K Copper), and while all of them are great lights (all for specific purposes), I would NOT bring them along as my only light on a hike or a trip to the family cabin. I would bring any Fenix light along for that. My 2014 PD35 has been through most things with me, and all it has to show for years of use and abuse is a few scratches.
