The Venn diagram of Surefire users and Anduril enjoyers has a slim crossover 😂😂I can tell you what isn't a "Unicorn and Grail" flashlight, for me
Anything that requires a "guide", as attached below, because that is nothing but a play toy, nothing more
Magnetic rotary switches are very handy. Not having to scroll through levels of brightness, but just turn the ring. I have several of this type.Back in the day... ten years ago Magnetic rotories were all the rage.
I got a Niteye MSC20. It has a XML led in it but it is still a great light.
Here's a review written by another member.
Niteye MSC20 Review (1x 18650 or 2x CR123/RCR123)
Niteye are making their own mark on the flashlight scene, and have designed a range utilising an interesting rotary magnetic / button combination tail-switch. The focus of this review is one of this new range of Military Series lights, the MSC20 model. Initial Impressions: The two...www.candlepowerforums.com
My perfect flashlight has a momentary push-button tail switch and a continuously variable magnetic ring. Sunwayman, Jetbeam, Niteye, Nitecore, and I think Niwalker have all released flashlights with these features. And I wonder: why does no other brand offer these features today? And why don't today's hobbyists demand these features? Do the flashaholics of the 2020s not know that these flashlights existed? I don't understand anything...
Amen to that. I have a few Emisar lights now (DT8K, DW4, Noctigon K9.3, D4K Copper), and while all of them are great lights (all for specific purposes), I would NOT bring them along as my only light on a hike or a trip to the family cabin. I would bring any Fenix light along for that. My 2014 PD35 has been through most things with me, and all it has to show for years of use and abuse is a few scratches.I have to agree though. I use an Anduril light every single day (Emisar D4k with 2700k dedomed emitters) as my bedroom lamp on Candle Mode, and it is UNBEATABLE in that use case, BUT I would certainly not take that light somewhere where I needed durability and reliability.
I haven't had an Emisar/Noctigon die on me yet, but I don't subject them to the same torture I do with my Malkoffs, HDS or Oklumas.
