Hey guys, rather new to the forums, but been tinkering with incans for a while. Thought I would try my hand at a P7 build on a 2 x D cell Mag chassis. Thought I would see what everyone thought of this little build-up.

First, the ingredients.

Black 2 x D mag, P7 Emitter (DSWOJ), Gold anodized heatsink, the 2 x 32650 protected battery pack from KAI, and one of Der Wichtel's drivers.

I will skip the boring stuff and show the finished product since everyone here presumably knows how to solder and wire up a driver. (probably better than me.)

Here is the P7 mounted to the heatsink in the mag body.

And, here is the whole thing together.

Now, I know some of you are saying, "That reflector looks wierd." well, it is. It is a stock reflector that I added some clear urethane to for a modified OP look. I didn't like the huge donut hole of the stock reflector. Here is a better look without the flash.

Now for a few beamshots. Sorry guys, but all I have is indoor, and all of my walls are textured.

First one is a 1/320 f4 ISO 800 3 feet to the wall. As tight as it will focus.

Next, also 3 feet from the wall 1/1000 f4.

Next is also 3 feet from the wall 1/320 f4 focused out to flood.

Next, same but at 1/1000. You can see the donut hole out this wide.

Last, but not least, is a shot about 12' from the wall. Tight focus. 1/320 f4 ISO 800 also.

Seems to have a relatively nice beam shape with a good hotspot. Good useable spill as well. Should make for a pretty useable light IMHO. Well, that is about it. Feedback welcome.

Re: Calling all critics. My first P7 build. Fire away!

Nice work. I have several lights now but P7 mag is still one of the most useful lights I have, I run mine on the same battery pack. I have never heard any thing but good about that driver too.

Re: Calling all critics. My first P7 build. Fire away!

Yeah, everyone I spoke to told me to go with Der's driver. Glad I did. Great output, and runs right where you set it. No weird ebb and flow with the current. Der Wichtel was beyond helpful and answered all my questions. I will definitely use his driver if I build any more of these!!

Re: Calling all critics. My first P7 build. Fire away!

I would redo the soldering because if you have an aluminium reflector and if it touches the wires then you will short your light.

Short copper wire or magnet wire with about 0.5mm² ( not flexible wire) will help. Furthermore it will look much cleaner ^^

but overall nice mod. My first mod was not as good as yours

Re: Calling all critics. My first P7 build. Fire away!

I am using the stock reflector so just plastic. I coated the soldered ends with a high-temp epoxy to seal them as well, just in case the reflective material from the stock reflector was metal based.

And, yes, my soldering could use some work!!

BTW, thanks for the driver. Out-freakin-standing is all I have to say.

Would clear nail polish work as well ?

Re: Calling all critics. My first P7 build. Fire away!

the urethane is a good idea, heck...I could sputter all the stock mag reflectors I swapped out:naughty:

Re: Calling all critics. My first P7 build. Fire away!

I guess clear nail polish would work if it could stand up to the heat. The stuff I used said it is good to 250 degrees. I tried sputtering one lens with a clearcoat mix, but made the beam too floody for my taste. For the one I am using now, I actually brushed on a thick clear urethane from the center out. This evened out the beam, but it still has pretty good throw, And no donut.

Just an update, I added a charging port to the tailcap. Since I am using the charger that came with the batts from KAI, makes it easy. Just wire it in, and add the coaxial terminal to the charger....

Pics.

And just for kicks, a beamshot against my Eagletac. Forgot the camera settings, and it is on a tan wall. Just wanted to see the difference. Eagletac on the right.
