I had trouble with the conversion because the P90 lamp assembly didn't fit into the head of the Garrity light, it was too large in diameter to get past the threads of the head. Did you need to modify the lamp assembly at all? Or is my flashlight out of spec?

My idea is to hack a Brinkmann LX in half, and solder an extension tube to make it long enough to hold 3 batteries. I like the heavy construction of the LX, and the fact that the SF lamps fit without modification.

I would love to see your new modification (I'll try not to delete them this time

Sorry, I thought I had made it clear that the one downside was the OD of the lamp assembly had to be reduced about .030" to fit the Garrity head. The new design still requires that.

Face (machine, not look at it :)the plastic of the barrel as before, drill out the rivets, cut the barrel to length, (if other than a X3 123), face it again then reposition the lower bezel to accomodate the lamp without the spacer.

Use care to get it correctly positioned. The outer lamp spring will be almost 100% compressed. Mark the barrel, remove the lamp assmebly, roughen the last 3/8" of the barrel (I knurled it) and fasten in place with steel filled (so called Plastic Steel)epoxy. Clamp it and bake at 150 F for an hour.

Fit it all by hand first, then assemble it for real. Note that all the other head modification details remain the same from the previous design, just don't machine and install the spacer. (Glue the threaded head directly onto the lower bezel, sans spacer, lining up the notch.)

The nice thing about this is that the batteries can now come out the head end. (If you *don't* want this, don't deburr after cut off.)

Just made me up a few 6P clones with P61, the barrel length needs to be about 3.440" for this, but it isn't critical. (It can actually be shorter).

Any questions, email me.

lol....Thats funny, the guy must've been surprised. The new mod leaves the Garrity externaly unchanged so it's a real sleeper.

I'm glad your's is holding it's own, at least against the stock Garrities Wally World sells.

I've updated the design on converting the Garrity stainless steel AA into a X3 or X2 123 lithium torch. This turns it into a SF 9P or 6P clone using the P60/61 or P90/91 lamps. These are all a slightly smaller diameter than an E2 with a slightly larger head. (One could also make it a X1 123 like a 3P, if required.)

The new design does not require the machined external spacer of the prior modification. (The torch looks exactly like a normal Garrity in that there are no external mods.)

For the fellows who emailed me before, if you haven't done your's yet and wish to utilize the new design, email me for details.

(For KT, if you'd like, you can send your's back and I'll modify it gratis or I can fab you up a new one in X2 or X3. It's up to you, but your's *is* kinda special because your spacer is the only one I made from stainless so you may want to keep it.)
