Well, I got another E1B clip (Thanks ROK). This one I installed on my E1L. I filed the E1B clip down to size of other SF clips so I could use the shim. Here are pics: (Oh, and cigar in pic is a Camacho Triple Maduro-my first. Very heavy bodied cigar with extra sweetness provided by all the maduro...)

Well, I have another E1B clip coming courtesy of a fellow CPFer, so I thought it was safe to pull mine off and move it to one of my L1s. I love the L1 but hate the stock clip. Removal of the E1B clip was accomplished by bracing body/clip/tailcap on a hard surface-with threads down, covering space between body and clip as well as top of clip with old towel and tapping bend in clip with hammer gently--came right off. E1B clip fit slightly loosely on L1, so I attempted to install the L1's plastic shim (E1B clip does not use a shim). It went in 3/4 of the way and no further. I actually broke it off in an attempt to get it in, but now the clip is ultra snug.

So, for anyone else considering it, here are some comparison pics.

L1 stock clip removal method (except remove O-ring first):

And it really doesn't show well in the carry pics, but there feels like substantially more of the light deeper in your pocket using the E1B clip. Also, the bulge is not as pronounced, lense is not exposed, etc. etc. I'm also carrying a holstered revolver in my pocket (S&W 642). I would normally NEVER carry ANYTHING else in the pocket with a pistol, but I was VERY careful while taking the pics.

If anyone needs any other pics, let me know!

The response I got via email from surefire:

"Dear Sir,
Unfortunately those are not for sale separately.

Re: L1 Clip Comparison Pics: Stock Vs. E1B Clip

That goes a long way towards me wanting an L1 as the original clip is just wrong! Now if only they could give it the low level (and runtime) of the E1B and shrink it to the E1B's size (make that tailcap smaller!) while keeping that same L1 UI.................

Re: L1 Clip Comparison Pics: Stock Vs. E1B Clip

Yeah, I'll actually carry the L1 now since I love the switch. And I actually like the amount of light that protrudes from the pocket using the E1B clip. Gives you a little to grab with the fingers without too much sticking out. Perfect IMO.

Jeff,

Do you find any rubbing or any obstruction from the clip when you twist the L1 tailcap for constant on?

Dang. Forgot to mention that I have NO rubbing of the tailcap knurling on the longer clip. A couple have mentioned that they needed to bend the clip, but I did not. It has just enough clearance. You can sort of see that from the 2nd and 3rd pics, but I did not quite capture a direct shot. I'll consider posting another pic, but my Dell laptop HD crashed, so I'm on my wife's now, and she wants it back!...Jeff.

Re: L1 Clip Comparison Pics: Stock Vs. E1B Clip

How did you get the clip off the L1? You stated you pulled it off, but in which direction do you pull? Towards the tail or the head? Mine doesn't seem to move.

Re: L1 Clip Comparison Pics: Stock Vs. E1B Clip

Doc, I removed the head and O-ring from the L1 and then pulled toward the threads with a shoe string around the clip. Was not too hard. Some say need to push shim out with small flat screwdriver...

Re: L1 Clip Comparison Pics: Stock Vs. E1B Clip

Edited to add pic of stock L1 clip removal method and final pic of E1B's clip near L1 tailcap to show no issue with rubbing when switch turned.

Re: L1 Clip Comparison Pics: Stock Vs. E1B Clip

I wonder why SF won't sell you a clip. That seems very ridiculous to me. I have to buy a whole light to get a clip? Nope. :shakehead

This is not unusual - when a new product or component is introduced it takes a while for sufficient inventory to be set aside for spares and then for it to be sold individually. This is especially the case where components are being used to assemble complete products when they are trying to keep up with demand from their dealers.

I would think that SureFire will at some point in the future be able to offer the pocketclips to those that call them directly just like the existing pocketclips.

Re: L1 Clip Comparison Pics: Stock Vs. E1B Clip

OK, now I do want an L1 but I still want a lower low (similar to E1B) for longer runtimes. I know that a resistor isn't as efficient as E1B's circuit but isn't there an aftermarket tailcap for the L1 with a lower resistor level? I looked around but couldn't find it. TIA!

You'd think that they would build up some inventory BEFORE they released a new product. I wonder if they would sell a clip for one of their more established lights....................doubt it.

That is pretty weak tho, IMO. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to sell a simple clip for a company as large as SF.....................perhaps they are too busy with their new line of apparel?

SureFire have often demonstrated behaviours that are seemingly maddening - the impossible being possible, and the possible being impossible. It's almost like they don't like doing anything unless it's difficult and hard work.
It's not that SureFire just take the stairs rather than the elevator to the top of the skyscraper - they seem to prefer to pogo stick rather than walk.

I very much hope you are correct, it just seemed real strange ya know? I would very much like to try this myself. :naughty:

I love it now that it rides so well in my pocket. I love the size of this somewhat oversized 1-cell light. Just enough in my hand, and of course, the best switch!

I've actually PM'd and emailed Milky looking for a mod, but he's not responded in a few days now--I'm sure he's busy. Anyone know the best way to contact him? Thanks....

Re: L1 Clip Comparison Pics: Stock Vs. E1B Clip

I'm kind of peeved because I suggested to somebody else in a different thread that they put the E1B clip on an L1 and somebody shot me down saying that it had already been tried and didn't work. Whatever! Here is the proof!
