I wonder the age and location of some here? I am 60 and when I was young damn near no one wore helmets on a motorcycle and as a kid in the 70's never on a pedal bike. Hell they didn't even put seat belts in many cars when I was little and it was not a big deal to ride in the back of a pickup truck! Many view it as a personal choice, yes it can be harmful, but so can drinking alcohol or smoking. Maybe I'm just old and don't like authority.

65 year old former firefighter (we were called fireman when we road standing on the back of the fire engines) and seat belts save lives. Yes you can be trapped by the belt and burned alive but that percentage is very rare.
I knew a harley rider that had to avoid the back of a car that suddenly for no apparent reason stopped in-front of him. He avoided by turning into a gas station parking lot and at maybe 5mph as he tapped the brakes he hit a patch of oil/grease and whipped sideways hitting his head in a snapping motion.
He proudly displayed the smashed helmet on his desk at the Harley dealer he worked at. Said the force even at 5 mph would have killed him without a helmet.
As a child we were the first to have to wear seatbelts as though not law the Air Force made it mandatory that at least while on base you had to wear them. So i've never not worn them.

The question here isn't whether helmets are a good idea…It's whether it should be legally mandated…FYI, this IS a requirement in my house…both for my kids and my wife 😀

Was good to see the conversations here happening so far without getting political for a little while but it is starting to lean back into it…I suppose you can't avoid it.

I suppose it boils down to the question is driving / riding a right or a privilege? If a right then helmet/seat belt requirements are illegal. If a privilege then they can make you wear a bright yellow duck suits to drive!

Let me tell you something.... Mr. Quacker is undefeated!

I live in the state that is #1 in motorcycle deaths.
I feel like everyone who gets a motorcycle in this state should get a handicap plate automatically, to remind them.
I got stuck in 2 hours of traffic one day. When I got to the end of the traffic, there was half a motorcycle sticking out the back of a dump truck and a white sheet laying on the road. I stopped complaining about the traffic after seeing that.

My state also seems to have a lot of terrible drivers.
I feel like, even in a car, anyone on the road can drive right into me and it's considered an accident. If I'm stopped at a light, I don't think I could prevent every or even half accidents if I don't have the room to get out of the way.

I wouldn't even consider getting on a motorcycle here.

Although I believe in individual freedoms I see a helmet as cheap insurance just in case. Much like a seatbelt in a vehicle it only takes a few seconds to buckle up however saves thousands of lives yearly.

I do feel it should be your choice to decide your own level of safety however again do not understand as to why anyone would risk injury over such a simple choice. I remember years back buying all kinds of gear for a new hobby of cycling. The dang bicycle was 1200 dollars and then when I added all the gear needed it was also very expensive.

The shop that sold me this stuff did help out with some budget choices however I remember very clearly the salesman insisted that I did not go cheap on a helmet. I took his advice and maybe 6 months later I took a spill on a downhill run at about 40 mph. I had road rash all over and my helmet took a direct hit to the road. the helmet was badly damaged however worked exactly as it was designed to do. There was no doubt in my mind that I had made the right choice when I bought that helmet.

The next day I purchased another one just like it.

With over 330,000,000 people being represented a Democratic Republic is never going to be perfect for everybody on everything. I know this much however as long as it stays a Democratic Republic it's going to be a whole lot better than North Korea and whole host of other autocratic nations.

I hope you realize that we are a Representative Republic and not a Democratic Republic. Socialist countries are democratic ie the DDR (East Germany).

Yeah, I could point you to many references that would disagree with that notion. I on other hand will point you to only one but one of many I can find.

Lol there is no more baseball for real I can't find the game on any local channel .would love to see cleveland win
It's a shame they've moved into the subscription-based method for almost every app you can imagine... They split up different games on different apps so they basically force you to buy all the apps to be able to see the games. As an example I am a liverpool FC (soccer) fan.... To try and watch every game they have during the season, you probably need anywhere between 4-7 different apps when you include the different cups they play. I'm not sure how they are allowed to get away with it, or why people are purchasing these apps... Cable used to be expensive, but I'd rather pay the price cable was as opposed to paying the equal amount if not more for 100 different apps... Not to mention remembering log-ins and what have you for all of them. It's ridiculous... and also not sure how it's sustainable for them considering so many people just pirate the stuff nowadays! -- I know the UFC is likely going to be moving away from PPV after their contracts up... they are losing MILLIONS each event... It's just too easy to pirate and theres virtually nothing they can do about it... Dana White basically declared war on the illegal streamers a year or two ago, with nothing that ever seemed to come of it.

In reality we are neither, we became oligarchy/plutocracy, Rich elites rule, and all laws they passed in last 2-3 decades are in favor of that class, and that class only.

America has become a nanny state. As I type this both presidential candidates are proposing free free free stuff. Tax free this, obligation free that. It seems as though by January, Santa Clause will either be a cackling woman or a kooky man.

But it still beats the crap out of North Korea.

Only one actually attempted to over turn the will of the people not only with Jan 6 but his fake elector scheme, Jan6 was the backup plan because Pence turned him down repeatedly. The man traffics in conspiracy theories like the one where he talks about legal immigrants eating their neighbors pets because he plays on his followers ignorance, fear and hate. Not only endangering the legal immigrants but bomb threats to American children. Gee, I wonder what kind of political figures play on their followers fear and hate? What kind of person sees where his speech results in bomb threats and doubles down on his message?

Wow, she laughs weird. We've had plenty of bad policy before and survived, we've just never had to survive somebody who's best buddies are people like Putin, Kim, and Orban. Putin flatters him and Trump turns into jello because no respectable leader would. What a frigging malignant narcist. Where his own Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff not only calls him unfit as many in his own administration did but a fascist and dangerous to his own country. The same people Trump claimed where the best people. Seems as though all the best people agree that Trump is unfit for office. **** Cheney even endorsed a Democrat and not many seem to notice.

If he could only stick to talking about Arnold Palmers anatomy he might be a lot less dangerous.
