I bought 5 of the MTE 42180 flashlights (early Christmas shopping) after reading the reviews. One of the most common complaints was the supplied lanyard. It is small, but I found a way to use it:
1) loop the lanyard over the head of the flashlight.
2) stick index, middle and ring fingers between the lanyard and flashlight with the body of the light inside the hand and your thumb over the switch.
The grooves on the flashlight keep the lanyard from sliding too much, which allows partial use of your hand without gripping the flashlight.
That's about as useful as it gets, hope this helps someone!
