Using and charging 14500s

Hello Everyone,

I had a few questions on 14500 LIons:

1. I know they are supposed to be AA sized. I imagine that AWs 14500s will fit anywhere that regular AAs do (dimensions only--obviously, the voltage is a lot higher)? But would it be neccesary to use magnets with multiple AW 14500s, and would it then still fit in a 2 AA light?

2. Does anyone know if the Wolf Eyes 14500 are truly AA sized? I know some of their other batteries are larger than the comparable AW cells. Just wondering if anyone has any experiance using WE cells in AA sized lights.

3. Can AWs 14500 cells be charged properly on the WE charger?

Hey Lux,

Sure, np--I'll include some links. Though I'd love to hear from anyone who actually runs these combos, b/c I think some bats in the past have ben slightly larger than the specs say. But here they are:

Oh sorry...I meant the charger link....since they have quite a few for sale.

In general 14500 cells are the same as AA cells. Protected versions are slightly longer.

I would use it with the spacers designed for the WE 18500 cells. So the protected 14500s are longer? That would include both AWs and WEs. Do you think they would fit in AA lights? Specifically, I was thinking of using them in a Fenix L1D-CE, and in 2 in a minimag. Just not sure if they'd be too long or too wide. Thanks again!!

I have one of AW's 14500's and it fits fine in my L1D, but it is too fat to fit (without forcing it) in the two minimags that I tried it in.

ah, thanks thezman! Just what I was looking for. Glad to hear you didn't have any problems getting it in the L1D. Unfortunately, I think the WE cells are a bit larger. So I'd want to use AW cells, but charge them in the WE charger--not sure if that's possible or advisable
