Ok so I want to use 6 rechargeables in pack for my electric jacket and until I can contact the manufacturer I want as close to 6x1.5volts as possible.

I was told NImh doesnt work well on the hi draw heating unit, voltage to low..so why not mix battery tyopes and get the right voltage..like three Powergenix 2500mah at 1.8 and Three Lacrosse 2500mah NIMH at 1.2-1.4.

I have heard of burnt out flashes etc using NIZN...wouldnt subbing one lower voltage equal capacity NimH solve this?

A rule has been not to mix battery types, but this the exception?

Has this been done?

Mixing batteries with different types of chemistry is a very bad idea! That is inviting cell reversal and battery venting!

first of all ni-zn are 1400-1500mAh of capacity, not 2500 (that are the mWh)

theorically you can discharge ni-mh and ni-zn in series but you must find 1400-1500mAh ni-mh batts, otherwise you will overdischage the battery with less mAh

but the charge MUST be separate, and if you don't know very well the batts... also the discharge :sssh:

Were you told this or have you tested it yourself? There was another similar thread about a heating jacket recently. NiMH batteries are normally excellent in high power heating applications and the only problem might be if there is an electronic low cut-off circuit that is wrongly calibrated. If you have not tested NiMH I recommend you do so. Use high quality cells like Eneloops that have low internal resistance.

Maybe alkaline battery sales are down, and manufacturers of jackets like Nite's are in cahoots with companies like Energizer, and are being coerced into providing circuitry to prevent the use of NiMH cells. :D Actually, you know, that's not really funny?

As Mr Happy said, there is another thread about electric jackets. In that thread, I pointed out that even lower capacity NiCd cells worked better than alkalines, with electric socks.
