UV light in movie theaters

First post! I have been enjoying this forum for the past few months and am a proud owner of a SF M2 centurion and -- in a few days -- an Arc AAA LE because of it.

Here's a (probably naive) question that I can't find addressed anywhere: has anyone tried using a UV LED light to find an open seat in a darkened theater? Or rather, to roughly gauge where people are sitting? I hate that vertiginous sensation of walking blind with un-adjusted pupils into a virtually black theater and then having to look for a seat among the crowd. I've tried wielding my red Photon and decided that it just attracts too much attention. I was hoping the UV beam would be largely invisible to them and still highlight enough of their shirts or jackets to guide myself to an opening.

Sigh, what a wierd question to start off my introduction to the CPF. Much obliged for any info proffered.

Well, if anything, the photon would probably help you find an "un-stained" seat... However, you might not like what you see...

Great idea, I will try it next time! But I doubt if it will attract less people...

(and I'm shure somebody will soon mention how dangerous it will be for people's eyes!)

(it is not, of course, all the warnings are for keeping lawyers quiet).

i dont know about the uv photon but i know the uv arc does not have a very wide beam and uv led's are not like normal uv lamps - they are almost pure uv (not alot of visable light what so ever) so you would still be tripping over anything not uv reactive and you would be making things that glow - glow but only if they are right in front of you.
my vote that it is a bad idea.

Really, maybe the best suggestion is just getting there early! jejejejeje

I think I saw somwhere that Brock had easily made a covert Photon and uses it to work around a stage area with out being to noticable. Welcome!

Dan...I liked your responce

I used to use a Photon 1 covert with a single 2032 battery. But now I use the covert Photon 3 in "dim" mode. Although I bet if you just walked in it would be to dim to see with anyway. I would suggest waiting a bit until you can see better. If I am in my office then have to go in the booth or out in the theatre I will close my eyes for 30 seconds. It really helps for me anyway.

Thanks everyone for the laughs and suggestions. Yes, Brock, I think it is high time to get a Photon 3. OTOH, after running my white Photon 2 into the ground as a reading light during the summer Taiwan typhoon, it might just be dim enough to use instead

.

Besides, I would think a white Photon 3 in dim mode would be perfect for astronomy, another hobby of mine.

Actually, get a bunch (50 or so) of cheap photon knock-offs. Hang them from your ceiling using string. Then, you can simulate astronomy from the comfort of your own house. No need to even go outside.
