wow, i would love to find instructions. I really don't trust tap water...does anyone know how much one would cost to make?

I have thought about this before.
I keep thinking about using UV leds.
I just ordered a 395nm Arc UV led flashlight with 12mW of output.
Most UV Leds don't look like they output this much power, though.

The questions become:
1) Is this the correct wavelegth?
2) How much UV power/light is required (probably power vs time curve)?

hmm.. my response didn't go through the first time.

Anyway, those LED's arent' really going to do anything to purify the water, it's basically just blacklighting. To kill organisms and stuff, the wavelength is usually much lower <300 nm, and you probably don't want to be playing around with it. It's will definitely mess you up if you're not careful.

If you look on Page 383 of the Fall Cabelas Cat. they have a UV water purifier that runs on 4 AA's it might be on their website at cabelas.com item #SC=51-5610. Price is $199.99 not cheap.

You can build one by mounting a UVC bulb/LEDs on the bottom of the lid of a water container. Just be careful to avoid getting the bulb/LEDs wet. Water and high voltage don't mix.
