Hello, I just received my V10r Ti. And while I love everything about this light, there is a portion during control ring movement, where the brightness ramping is not completely linear. During the final third of rotation, there is a point where the brightness kind of has a tiny little flicker before continuing to brighten. Is this something to be concerned about? anyone else notice this? or am I just being to anal.?

thanks in advance.

ps - the smoothness while turning is perfectly fluid, with no rough or loose spots

Its not linear the first 1/3 of the movement only goes from like <1 lumen to maybe 6 but I love it. Flicker? like on and off?

EDIT: Huh? mine does it too lol. I guess its normal

While I doubt it's anything to be concerned about, my V10R Ti is completely, and perfectly linear, from start to finish, FWIW. That little hiccup might resolve itself with use, or, you might try cleaning the contacts with a little DeOxit. Try a different cell also. My V10R is probably the earlier version too. I'm thinking that AFTER I bought mine, I read that they had a newer "soft start" version, which has a different driver than mine. Mine isn't the soft start variety, so maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges?

The little flicker is present in my V10R and V10R Ti v2 soft start and more throw.

Sunwayman made a limited edition V10R Ti. This sold out very quickly and had a medium OP reflector and normal forward clickie. A lot of flashaholics still wanted one, so Sunwayman decided to make more. They made some revisions to the original first run of V10R Ti. This included a soft start and a light OP reflector for more throw. I refer to it as a v2 in order to differentiate it from the original.

Phew well that makes me feel a bit better. It would have been a pain in the neck to try and exchange this one.

Anyone else care to chime in, on whether or not your v10r ti's do this?

The output of sunwayman is not linear, it's tuned lo look linear. The eyes don't precive light in a linear way. 100 lumens dont look twice as bright as 50. The v10r does a good job making it look linear to our eyes.

Hmm, after playing with it some more, and observing the light increase, especially on wall that is further away, it's not so much a flicker but more like a sudden jump in lumens. So if this is not normal should I contact the seller?

Then we can just call it linear if talking about the output?

Nah, there's a little magnet in the control ring that effects some sensors mounted around the driver, the circuit interprets the position of the ring as an output level. I believe you're seeing an artifact of that method. I've seen a couple that didn't do anything for the last 1/4" turn. I don't think they designed it knowing that we would look at it so closely.

When i talk about output, im always talking about lumens, anything else would be confusing. Sunwayman have done a exellent job tweaking the output curve. It's not linear, but make our eyes think it is. I just tought it was worth mentioning. My v2 got a small "dent" in the outputcurve close to max. Looks like a tiny flicker when i twist fast past that point. No big deal for me.

I tried my V10R Ti again with a fresh AW 16340 and now the little flicker is gone (",)

I have noticed that my V10R has a soft start until you ramp it up past the slight jump in brightness. After the jump it has instant on. I think this is a very nice touch to have the soft start until you have max brightness where you would want the momentary to be instant.

Man, I really want one of these, I keep hearing great things about it!!
