V3 Triple XPG 1100 lumen Fully Regulated Drop-ins now available

As for 1000 OTF, the newer 1400 lumen models should be able to achieve that goal.
Question, the 1100's are/were available in 'cool' and 'neutral' (w/ slightly lower output), do you expect both tints to be available for the 1400's as well? (Looking for a 'neutral' BTW)

Thanks,

Thanks,

We plan to keep these tints coming, as long as we can.

They will be available in all models, unless there is a temporary supply problem.

Thanks for the response. Can you hazard a guess to the projected run time comparisons between the 1100 and 1400 specifically? I read somewhere else that the energy needed to push the 1400 would cut the run time in half.

So, it works with a Z2. Will it work with a Z3? I have a Z3.

The 1100L Triple works out of regulation (700/800L) on single cells with the 6P, C2, Z2, D2, and M2

The 1100L Triple works in regulation (1000/1000L) with dual cells on the 9P, C3, Z3, and D3

The main consideration is the battery setup.
With a Z2 you can run 2x 16340's, 1x 17670 (unbored) or 1x 18650 (bored).
With a Z3 you can run 2x 17500 (unbored) or 2x 18500 (bored).

We have a bore batch closing in the next 24 hours if you're interested in running 18500's.

Will the new 1400s be availible as single mode lights as well or only multi mode?

Hey guys, guess what just showed up!

..oh wait, wrong thread. Sorry.

OK, OK, just kidding! :nana:

Preliminary evaluation:

It's friggin' gorgeous!
Outstanding workmanship overall and easily the best lookin' drop-in I've ever seen personally.
I knew this was going to be good as soon as I saw v1.

The only reason I'm going on about the "looks" is because I have high standards regarding fit/finish. I believe this directly correlates to quality and professionalism of the overall product. I've been on the manufacturing side of things for a very long time so this is important to me. The module seems well sealed and not easily modded nor tampered with. I'd dare say it looks bulletproof but I'll have to reserve that kind of accolade till she's seen some combat and real life testing. I only have one Surefire C3 host with me at the moment to test fit/performance. The fit is good but not tight to the wall and will need a very thin shim of copper to optimize heat transfer to the body. Hell, that might even not be necessary but it wouldn't hurt so I'll probably stick one in there. There's a slight gap between the bezel and the body, just like all the Malkoff's I own/have seen. Now, before all you whiny, OCD metrosexuals start crying and throwing your fits, this is very necessary for universal fit and optimum conductivity across the many generations of Surefire P/C/Z models made throughout the years. This gap in NO WAY compromises water resistance because that is handled solely by the bezel O-ring.

Now, let's get down to what you've all been waiting for.

THIS SONUVABITCH IS BRIGHT!

Sorry, but I don't have any way to properly test lux/lumens at the moment.
I'm running it on two AW 18500's. Amperage draw @ 7.94v is 1.55A.
It's full daytime here and even with all the ambient light coming in the room it's bright as hell and has a perfectly round, huge hotspot with room filling spill. On a ceiling bounce it lights up the room like a 60 watt incandescent bulb! Sweet. I ordered the neutral version and the module is marked on the rim with a label stating 4500K. I believe Tom stated it was a 4C tint bin. It's one of the best tints I've seen yet! For lack of a better adjective, I'd say "vanilla white" with absolutely no hint of red, pink, blue or green, etc. I'm lovin' it so far and can't wait for it to get dark. Man that's gonna be a brutal wait!!!

..over 'n out.

P.S. Thanks Dan and Sarah for the hand written note.
Also, a BIG thanks to Tom and everyone involved with bringing this project to fruition!

The Day you release a 1400 Lumen regulated 3-Mode Drop-in i'm SO buying one of those...

Great Work, it really looks like a piece of Art. 🙂

Moddoo/ElectronGuru,

I imagine the answer is yes, but can this module be run with a single IMR 26500 in one of the tank light hosts?

The driver's boost IC appears to have ~2.8A switch current limit and that's the thing that you bump into when trying to drive the triple with lower Vbatt levels. The boost IC itself is rated down to Vin = 2.7V.

Certainly both 1100 lumen and 1400 lumen versions will work when driven by 1xLi-ion. But for both cases, it looks to me that you will run into the switch current limit before reaching full regulation.

For simplicity, if we assume Vbatt under load of 4.0V when using 1xIMR26500 and driver efficiency of 75% (IMO, this is optimistic and actual efficiency is probably lower than this), then

1100 lumen version:
Ibatt ~ (9.5V*1.1A)/(0.75*4.0V) ~ 3.5A

1400 lumen version:
Ibatt ~ (10.5V*1.6A)/(0.75*4.0) ~ 5.6A

(Drive currents estimated based on sense resistor value)

Thus, to reach regulation with 1xLi-ion, you need to deliver about 3.5A to the 1100 lumen version, and about 5.6A to the 1400 lumen triple. Both of these figures far exceed the boost IC's switch current limit. So you can't get there from here.

Argh. Too bad these won't run on primaries. I'd be VERY interested in a 3 mode version that would run primaries.....

POWER SUPPLY OPTIONS:

Example of setups.

  • [*]Surefire 6P, C2, Z2:
you can run 2xIMR 16340 for 20 minutes of runtime (not protected, so you need to be careful how far you discharge these cells)

  • [*]Bored Surefire C3, 9P, or 6P with extension.
you can run 2 x protected 18500 for about 75 minutes of runtime (shuts off when depleted)

New guy needs help please.

I'm thinking I will purchase a A19 extender, and be able to run two 18500's in my bored C2. Is this correct? Your example above shows bored C3 with extender running two 18500's. Shouldn't that be two 18650's?

"6P with extension" is intended as a separate item from the 9P and C3.

Yes, you can use a bored A19 with your bored C2 to run 2x 18500.

A C2 with an A19 is not a common build, but certainly can work.

Thanks Tom,

Now I understand the wording.

I thought the C2, that I already have, would be my best option to run two cells with the V3.

Will the standard twisty tailcap on my C2-CJ work okay with the V3? Would switching to a Z41 w/McClicky yield noticeably better results?

Get your refresh buttons ready....

"More Triple/60's are due to be available on or before Saturday. And along with them, a special surprise to join the Triple in the new LED Light Engine section.."

I think the people who have been lucky enough to purchase one of these, wonder's of magic, have had enough time to play with it. I think it's time for you to get back to work. And by work I mean, it's time for you to sit down at your computer and let the rest of us poor, unfortunate slobs, live vicariously through you. :poke: Oh, and you probably should get something to eat.

Thank You,

Chance

Didn't know if Moddoo or EG could answer my questions. Would a McClicky net more lumens from the V3, or perhaps the Zero Resistance tailcap mod would be the way to go? Does installing the Zero Rez insert destroy the innards of the stock cap permanently? Thanks!
