Yeah, I'm the loon, according to my wife, who carries his E1b EDC - and his E2DL in his camera bag - and spare SF CR-123s in my contractors bag, along with 'spare' BM knives, headphones, SW radio, emergency radio, literature, lens cleaners, etc. We were at Gulf Shores, Alabama for a week... I like to be prepared.
My wife's favorite and dinky, name with held, 1 x AAA LED flashlight puked the first night - and it was soon followed by "Hey... where is your little flashlight?". "It's too bright!" followed by "I guess that's good... how long will that $5 battery last?". I explained that on low it would last nearly a day and a half - on a $<$2 battery. Still, no appreciation.
The last night, looking from the balconey, she said "What's that climbing that palm tree?". I thought it was a raccoon - she thought it was a big cat. The tree was between the occupied tennis courts and pool - it was ~10 PM. I got the E2DL out - on high - at ~100yd, it was clearly a big raccoon. I went down and followed him to the piers and boat ramp - watched him fish - successfully, which irritated the night fishermen - clean and eat his dinner - and retreat down the shoreline - under more piers.
I guess the point is simple - be prepared. The little Backup was a nice pocket piece to have - that Defender was great for looking through the water at the bottom dwellers at night - or following that raccoon. I'll take the flashlight heat for carrying a couple of real users... they proved most useful. The spare batteries weren't needed - despite the high level usage. Did I mention there was a 6P LED in the Jeep for more backup?
The range bag full of revolvers and ammo was perhaps a bit over the top, however.
