Yeah, I'm the loon, according to my wife, who carries his E1b EDC - and his E2DL in his camera bag - and spare SF CR-123s in my contractors bag, along with 'spare' BM knives, headphones, SW radio, emergency radio, literature, lens cleaners, etc. We were at Gulf Shores, Alabama for a week... I like to be prepared.

My wife's favorite and dinky, name with held, 1 x AAA LED flashlight puked the first night - and it was soon followed by "Hey... where is your little flashlight?". "It's too bright!" followed by "I guess that's good... how long will that $5 battery last?". I explained that on low it would last nearly a day and a half - on a $<$2 battery. Still, no appreciation.

The last night, looking from the balconey, she said "What's that climbing that palm tree?". I thought it was a raccoon - she thought it was a big cat. The tree was between the occupied tennis courts and pool - it was ~10 PM. I got the E2DL out - on high - at ~100yd, it was clearly a big raccoon. I went down and followed him to the piers and boat ramp - watched him fish - successfully, which irritated the night fishermen - clean and eat his dinner - and retreat down the shoreline - under more piers.

I guess the point is simple - be prepared. The little Backup was a nice pocket piece to have - that Defender was great for looking through the water at the bottom dwellers at night - or following that raccoon. I'll take the flashlight heat for carrying a couple of real users... they proved most useful. The spare batteries weren't needed - despite the high level usage. Did I mention there was a 6P LED in the Jeep for more backup?

The range bag full of revolvers and ammo was perhaps a bit over the top, however.

That's a great story. I was looking forward to going to the beach this year. Also Gulf Shores. Ours was canceled though.

However, I would have had my E1B on me at all times.

To back it up would have been my single-mode E2DL.

We were almost just alike, except I would have had a Glock :)

Never over the top. No such thing as "too much" stuff. :twothumbs

Sounds like that raccoon has been eating well...

Careful... Next thing you know, your wife will be "borrowing" your E1B on a permanent basis. You'll only see it long enough to swap out the dead battery.

Which gets very old :)

GF does this with the PD30 at least once every two weeks it seems.

I can relate to that. A while back I made the mistake of showing my wife a new E1L 2 stage. Now I only get to see it by submitting a written request. :shakehead

When it comes to wives, what's her's is her's, and what's your's is her's.

Never show them anything more impressive than a Dorcy AAA light.

Haha!

I got a purple E01 and I just purchased a Gun Metal 6P for the misses.
She loves them.

I offered a Malkoff M60, which she wanted at first, until she used the 6P for the first time and liked the nice warm incan... Now all I have to do is supply batteries!
