Please click on link that describes a list of prescribed weapons, and this other one that describes the prohibitation of prescribed weapons in Victoria, Australia.

Now you probably think that shouldn't be here, but I draw your attention to (ha) of the list of prescribed weapons in the first link.

Hmm.... sound familiar?

In my Webster's dictionary "PRESCRIBED" means that you are SUPPOSED to have/use them.

"The proper term would be "PROSCRIBED" which means forbidden...

Maybe if the law itself is actually written with the word prescribed, people arrested for posessing the things can use it for their defense.

Ever since the Aussies let the leftists take over their government, things have gone to $#17 there. Back in the 70s I thought about emmigrating over there. Thank God I didn't.

Sounds like a very safe place to be. All the criminals obey the laws against owning weapons, right?

Maybe they mean that these are "prescribed" by the government as weapons and therefore illegal?

For item "(ha)": that would eliminate Craig's super powerful laswer pointer. 1mW is sufficient for practically all pointing needs in a presentation. As it gets more powerful, the police are worried that it can be used in a weapon sight. But I'm really surprised that they listed it in this category. It should be in some category where it is illegal to carry without purpose, not outright illegal, since my university has at least 10 sets of portable 4mW lasers for a first year physics lab, and just as many lasers of much higher power in various labs.

That's interesting, because I have a weapons sight laser (dovetail mount, X-Y gimbal, etc.) that only puts out 1 milliwatt.
The beam is of higher quality than normally found in a laser pointer, but it's still only 1mW. So that ****-poor excuse (if indeed that is the Australian government's reasoning behind the proposed ban) doesn't wash with me.
