w4ww 5watt, this is what it says\" changed\"

I just got a 5 watt w4w from Elektrolumens and I don't understand what the coding on the bottom says. Maybe someone can help with this, here is what it says:

Re: w4w 5watt, this is what it says

From a newsletter I got earlier today:

New Luxeon White Binning Structure

On June 20th, Lumileds announced a new white binning structure for the Luxeon product line. Detailed information on the new binning structure is available in two documents,
Luxeon White Binning Structure Memorandum and
the latest updated version of our document
AB21 Luxeon Product Binning and Labeling available in our Library.

oO you are on top of it!

Still trying to figure out what it means to us (CPF'rs) I have recently heard rumors of R rank 1Ws out there. (Really wish I could get my hands on a couple /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif .

Re: w4w 5watt, this is what it says

The document also hinted at batwing whites with the new phosphor coating technique, and the "Luxeon III", which I'm assuming will be a 3-watt luxeon.

Any guesses at what the Luxeon III will be? A 1W die (1mm square) rated for higher currents? Maybe a slightly larger die (1.5mm square)? Maybe two 1W dies? Underrated 5W dies?

Mental note: Don't try reading that document at 3:30am. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/huh.gif

Re: w4w 5watt, this is what it says

Good find !!

But given the "old" binning 3 was the "whitest" I ask myself which binning will translate to the "best" ones now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Maybe one of the experts can chime in ? From my limited understanding I would guess that the most inner ones are the "best" so X0 and W0 be it - but how would the color change going to X1 or WA I have no idea - V1/V0 seems to be the old grenies or "warm" where Y0/YA would be tending towards blue/violet then. I have no idea about that X / Y axis thinggie.

Anyone ?

LXHLLW6C this is the only reference I can find in that document, the problem is I don't understand the documents.

Re: w4w 5watt, this is what it says

I called lumileds and Veronica struggled a bit with this but this is what she said. But I don't know if this is accurate because if you are on the wrong table all bets are off.

W=white
4= color of 6,000 to 7000
w= 7.83 to 8.13 v
w= 147 to 192 lumens

Re: w4w 5watt, this is what it says

First you need to look at the _second_ line, to determine when the part was made, and thus which bin system to use.

1503 means the 15th week of 2003. So this part uses the 'old' bin system.

The old bin system uses a letter for the flux bin, then a number for the color bin, and then a letter for the voltage bin.

You have flux bin W
Color bin 4
Voltage bin W.

I belive the values that you quote above for these bins are correct.

thanks, everyone, I was just trying to determine if this would be a good luxeon for a mod. Bright with decent color.

Re: w4w 5watt, this is what it says

So who has access to Lumileds that will post the URL to the new binning PDF??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink2.gif Hello, anyone???

*edit*
Never mind, someone already has...
Look here:

Thanks Burnt Retinas!!!
